James Neal recorded his second NHL hat trick and Sidney Crosby had four assists in his first home game in more than three months as the Pittsburgh Penguins ripped the Winnipeg Jets 8-4 on Tuesday night. Evgeni Malkin added two goals -- including the 200th of his NHL career -- and dished out three assists to lift his point total to an NHL-leading 93. Pittsburgh bounced back from an overtime loss in Philadelphia that ended an 11-game winning streak and pulled within a point of the Eastern Conference-leading New York Rangers. Tyler Kennedy scored twice for Pittsburgh, which dealt the Jets a blow in their pursuit of a playoff spot. Winnipeg trails eighth-place Washington by four points with nine games remaining. Bryan Little scored twice for the Jets. Ondrej Pavelec was pulled in the second after allowing five Penguins goals on 24 shots. Pavelec played well, but he got little help from his defense. The Jets allowed Crosby, Malkin and Neal to go wherever they wanted during a wide-op...

Crosby makes immediate impact for surging Penguins

Dan Bylsma promised to keep Sidney Crosby's minutes under control as his star center eased his way back into the lineup following a three-month layoff. It might be time to take the shackles off. Crosby collected five assists during Pittsburgh's three-game road trip through New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia that saw the Penguins pull within a point of the Eastern Conference...

STATS: Matt Cooke and Sidney Crosby

With the return of Sidney Crosby came a goal explosion by Matt Cooke, who persevered through not trying to injure people this season.  Upon Sid's return, Cooke was placed on Crosby's wing and told to go out and do ****.  And he has done ****.  Against the Rangers and Devils, Matt Cooke registered two 2-goal games back-to-back.    So we headed to the...

The March of the Penguins continued Tuesday Night as the Pens put a thumping on the outgunned Winnipeg Jets by a score of 8-4.  The game was played at a frantic pace as both teams seemed to abandon any thoughts of playing defense.  The action was continuous as both teams saw countless scoring chances, but the Penguins top-end talent just proved to be too much for the Jets to overcome...

MVP So Far This Season

In January I picked Evgeni Malkin as the MVP so far this season.  In February, Henrik Lundqvist took the MVP lead.  I am back to picking Malkin as MVP.  When I picked Lundqvist he was posting a .940 saves percentage and a 1.78 GAA.  Those numbers have fallen to a .934 saves percentage and 1.89 GAA.  While those are still Vezina Trophy numbers they are not good enough to be...

Fantasy Hockey ONE (3/21)

It seems like the question last night was more who did not score for Pittsburgh than who did. We are kidding of course.  However, despite the hat trick from James Neal, he was not our Fantasy POTN.  Now that does sound crazy of course and no Sidney Crosby was not either (despite four assists).  There was an even a hat trick from the enigmatic Ales Hemsky from...

Tuesday Morning Thoughts

from Elliotte Friedman of CBC, • Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma to reporters after Sunday’s 3-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers: “I think, really, the extracurricular stuff was the turning point in the game. It was a situation where you know they targeted players after the whistle and didn’t get penalized. I think that allowed them to get back in the game.” That’s...
