2013 captain predictions
Although there are several players that could easily step up as a captain or assistant captain, there are certain players that stand out to me.
Jamie Benn is the likely candidate for the new captain of the Dallas Stars.
Jamie Benn. With the potential to stay in Dallas for years to come, he is my choice for the new captain of the Stars. Being 24 years of age, he is also less likely to have off-ice issues as a 20-22 year old such as Seguin, or Dillon.
Stephane Robidas. Robidas is a solid defenseman and leader for other defensemen. He helped Dillon adjust to the NHL, and will do the same with the other defensemen for the Stars.
Ray Whitney. Although this may be one of Whitney’s final seasons in the NHL, his experience that he brings can’t go unnoticed. He will continue to teach younger forwards the ways of the NHL through his patience with the puck and lessons he has learned throughout ...

Since the trade of Brenden Morrow to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the latter part of last season, the Dallas Stars are left without a captain. As new head coach, Lindy Ruff, will wait to see who the most active leader is during training camp, it’s not too early to make predictions as to who the new captain will be. The new captain will be the sixth captain since the franchise has...
“Who’s better? Jamie Benn, or Shawn Matthias?” This seemingly innocent question, posed by the official Facebook page of the NHL, set a lot of fans off. Because, well, maybe this question wasn’t so much innocent, as it was plain stupid.
See, Jamie Benn, left wing for the Dallas Stars, was an All-Star in 2012, and has more career goals (82) in four seasons than Matthias, center...
Jamie Benn, Lindy Ruff, and Ryan Miller were the first three people that I thought of on Monday when Team Canada announced its men's hockey Olympic invitation camp.
It blew my mind that Benn, one of the NHL's under-appreciated young stars, wasn't included on the Team Canada invitation list. Benn was a glaring omission from the invitation list. he was snubbed for such...
In-depth Monthly Breakdown of Stars 2013-14 Schedule Formerly stuck in Pacific Division, where all road games were played outside the Central time zone, the new-look Dallas Stars are at least in their proper time zone in the reconfigured Central Division. With three Central teams guaranteed to make the playoffs and the possibility of earning one of two wildcard spots, the Stars on paper see...
The Winter Olympics are quite a ways away at this point, but that doesn’t mean that teams can’t start taking shape. Coaches have already been selected for the Canadian and American teams (and probably some others). Camp invites are going to be sent out soon, and most roster choices are pretty obvious.
The Stars have had good representation in the Olympics for the past couple...
Unless you’re a New Jersey Devils fan who can’t wait to watch Jaromir Jagr play for half of the season then get traded to a contender, it’s been a slow news day in the NHL.
All of the excitement surrounding the announcement of the USA and Canada orientation camp roster is slowly starting to taper (you can only discuss Jamie Benn’s snub so many times) which is why its the...
