A 6-1 blowout loss on Wednesday night at the hands of Colorado has the Devils sinking even further towards the bottom of the Atlantic Division.

Milan Hejduk started the scoring early for the Avalanche when he found the back of the net for the eighth time this season at 7:37, registering his 15th point in 15 career games against the Devils.  The next Colorado goal came less than seven minutes later when Henrik Tallinder practically handed the puck to T.J. Gallardi, who scored on a wrap around.

Less than two minutes later, Colorado took a three goal lead compliments of defenseman Jan Hejda, already putting the game out of reach for New Jersey, who had trouble all night clearing the puck out of its zone.

The Devils opened up the second period with a goal from Ilya Kovalchuk, assisted by rookie Adam Henrique and Zach Parise, in what would be the only scoring for New Jersey on the night.

The Avalanche burried New Jersey in the third period, scoring three goals and sending the Devils to a 12-10-1 record on the season.

After the blowout loss, the play of Kovalchuk and Parise will certainly be questioned.  Through 23 games, the Devils' two best offensive players have combined for just 11 goals.

Patrick Elias has stepped up and filled the void nicely, registering 20 points, including eight goals, to lead New Jersey.  Henrique has also played well in his first season in the NHL, registering 15 points in his first 20 games.

It doesn't get any easier from here for New Jersey, as they will travel to Minnesota on Dec. 2 to take on the NHL-leading Wild, with 33 points.

From here, the formula is simple for the Devils: keep the puck out of their zone and find the back of the net on offense.
