Fans who have followed the Dallas Stars recognize the name Brad Lukowich. Lukowich was a young upstart defenseman when the Stars captured their only Stanley Cup in 1999. He was then traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning where he won another Cup, then played for four other NHL teams before signing a two-way contract for Dallas in July of 2010.
The injuries on the backline have prompted Dallas to recall Lukowich from their minor league affiliate the Texas Stars to bring experience and poise to the blueline as the Stars struggle to make the playoffs in the tight Western Conference.
Without playing a game since their overtime loss to Philadelphia on Saturday the Stars have fallen to ninth. Being able to bring in a player like Brad who knows the system and has a winning pedigree is a great contingency situation that should help Dallas before their upcoming crucial five game road trip.
Here’s hoping he brings back some of his old magic.
