I am a die-hard New York Islanders fan and have been waiting for this for 7 years.  I sat in the Stanley Cup when I was 3 years old and have bled blue and orange ever since.  We are no longer the laughingstock of the NHL and Rick DiPetro is not on the roster.  So there will be no need for those kind of jokes anymore. The New York Islanders shocked everyone covering the NHL this year except for, and made the playoffs.  Whoever at TSB picked them to finish 8th was a real smart guy. The Isles will take on the top-seeded Pittsburgh Penguins Wednesday night.  To give us an Islanders perspective of the series, we reached out to Kevin Schultz of  Make sure to follow @IslandersPB and Kevin at @Schultz88 on Twitter. 1. There clearly is no love lost between these two organizations. There is a lot of history here. A few years ago there was the night at the Nassau Coliseum when the Isles were sick and tired of being pushed around and literally took m...

New York Islanders Call Up Eight Players Including Johan Sundstrom

The New York Islanders have called up Johan Sundstrom from their farm system Sunday to several other players including Brock Nelson, Matt Donovan, John Persson, Aaron Ness, Anders Nilsson and Calvin de Haan. All will be representing the Black Aces squad. The post New York Islanders Call Up Eight Players Including Johan Sundstrom appeared first on FFLockerRoom | NFL - MLB News ...

Islanders present and future now looking bright

Mark Streit is a rarity for the New York Islanders. The veteran defenseman is one of the few players, who when given the chance to go anywhere, actually chose to play on Long Island. Nearly five years after he signed his free-agent contract, Streit is about to wear the team's orange and blue sweater in a playoff game for the first time. ''It's amazing,''...

Really, Really Immature New York Islanders Insults

We've never claimed to be hockey experts, good writers or even above average people. We barely qualify as bloggers. So, with this playoff series against the Islanders coming up, we decided to lower the bar even further. Enjoy our post of incredibly immature and stupid insults directed towards the New York Islanders. This is a joke. A bad joke. The New York Islanders...

Dee Karl: The Islanders Can Score Goals

Have you noticed? There's a different attitude around the NHL press when it comes to the NY Islanders. Can we call it respect? Perhaps. Respect is something that is earned, and John Tavares and this roster of Islanders have done everything they could to do just that. It hasn't been easy. It's been a long road, and the work has been hard. At times it didn'...

Kevin Freiheit: Eastern Conference predictions

Pittsburgh (1) vs. Islanders (8) The Islanders are the team I'm rooting for in the Eastern Conference, and they have beat Pittsburgh before in the playoffs. However, I think the Penguins have far too much talent for the Islanders to pull off the upset. The Isles will put up a good fight and earn a couple of wins, but Pittsburgh is loaded and will show why they are the #1 seed...

ESPN Hockey Experts With Their Picks

Ten hockey experts at ESPN made their first round picks today and we will start with the East. All ten picked Pittsburgh over the New York Islanders, four picked Montreal and six picked Ottawa, five picked the Rangers and five picked the Capitals and all ten picked Boston over Toronto. In the West, Chicago was the unanimous choice over Minnesota, it was an even split with Ducks...

Marty Reasoner leg check on Jussi Jokinen and shenanigans

You could see this play coming, that's why I included the play leading up to this hit by the New York Islanders forward Marty Reasoner on Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jussi Jokinen. Both teams were taking runs at each other at the end of a 5-0 game. If you watch the video, you will see Jokinen looked up to see if the ref was going to call a penalty. Reasoner was assessed a...

A Few Moments from Penguins-Islanders History

Obviously this isn't the complete history of the two teams playing against one another, but here are some key moments in Penguins/Islanders history. 1975 That video pretty much explains the situation. The Islanders came back from a 0-3 hole to eliminate the Penguins. 1982 The Pens were pretty much annihilated by the Islanders in the first two games...

Penguins Take Game 1 over Islanders

After a hard-fought, 60 minute game, the Pittsburgh Penguins put on a display of scoring by defeating the New York Islanders 5-0 in game one. Solid goaltending, defense, and offense truly made this happen. However, the victory didn’t come without physical play. Penguins forward James Neal was checked by Islanders defenseman Travis Hamonic in the [...]

Isles-Pens Playoff Preview

This week marks the start of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs and the New York Islanders will face the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round. The Islanders, who haven’t made the playoffs since the 2006-07 season, will have to face a red hot Pittsburgh team who outscored them 17-9 in their 5 matchups this season. Although the Penguins have won 23 out of their last 27 games and led...
