There were quite a few news and notes around the Nashville Predators’ organization on Friday.
LEIPSIC LEADS WINTERHAWKS TO WHL FINALS
When the Preds took him in the third round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, they never could have imagined that Brendan Leipsic would go onto become the leading scorer in all of Canadian Major Junior the following season (120 points in 68 games). If that wasn’t impressive enough, he is now a part of Winterhawks history. All four of his seasons in Portland, he has played for the Ed Chynoweth Cup (the WHL Championship).
On the strength of two goals (and 17 penalty minutes) by Leipsic, the Winterhawks advanced to their fourth consecutive WHL Final by beating the Kelowna Rockets, 7-3, in game five of their series on Friday. Portland has lost just two games through three rounds and looks well on their way to, once again, representing the WHL at the 2014 Memorial Cup in May.
Leipsic has registered at least one point in all 14 games this post season.
