The NHL Draft Lottery was on Monday night, and the Philadelphia Flyers were a part of it. New to the lottery this year is now every team that did not qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs, have a chance at the first overall pick.  Going into the draft the Flyers had a dismal 1.5% chance of getting the number one overall pick. The small chance that the Flyers had quickly passed, as Bill Daly announced the picks. The Flyers retained the 11th spot in the NHL draft. With the 11th Pick of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, the Philadelphia Flyers Select...

It really isn't that clear who the best selection will be. There are a number of quality players who should be available when the Flyers are on the clock. After reading three mock drafts on NHL.com (they assumed Philadelphia would pick 8th), it seems that Adam Kimmelman, Mike Morreale, and Steven Hoffner all have made their picks based on the team's obvious need: a physical...

Ilya Bryzgalov Calls Flyers Reporters ‘Lunatics,’ Their Writing ‘Ridiculous’ in Farewell Interview (Video)

Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov and his ridiculous contract likely won’t have to deal with the Philadelphia media next season, so the netminder made his interview on Sunday night count. In typical Bryz fashion, he awkwardly gave the scribes a lesson on professionalism after calling some of them “lunatics” and their writing “ridiculous.” “It’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous...

Flyers keep Laviolette as coach

The Philadelphia Flyers have failed to win a Stanley Cup since 1975. But they're at least in the hunt. Not this year. Not after the Flyers failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2007 and only the second time since 1995. Any offseason shakeups needed to mold the Flyers back into a contender won't include changing the coach. Peter Laviolette has another chance...

Flyers keep Laviolette after missing playoffs

The Philadelphia Flyers have failed to win a Stanley Cup every season since 1975. But they're at least in the hunt. Not this year. Ilya Bryzgalov blasts Philadelphia media, asks "What have you done for the city?"

Ilya Bryzgalov has had it with the media in Philadelphia. As the Flyers cleaned out their lockers following a disappointing season that ended with the team outside of the playoff picture, local media questioned Bryzgalov about being the man blamed for the poor season.  Bryzgalov curtly responded by asking reporters, "What have you done for the city?" If...

Ilya Bryzgalov Rips Philly Media

The Flyers season certainly didn't live up to many expectations. Whether it was the players the coach or the goalie, the team did not perform to their capabilities. Behind the scenes, the Philadelphia media reported on the struggles, the rumors, and the poor play of the team. The Flyers cleaned out their lockers on Sunday, and goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov had a lot to say to the...

Tim Panaccio: Do You "Like" The Flyers Roster?

Things I liked on breakup day: That general manager Paul Holmgren finally gave coach Peter Laviolette an endorsement for next season. The feeling among the media was that Holmgren's tepid responses in past weeks that he "expected" Laviolette back meant that he had to first run it by club president Peter Luukko and especially club chairman Ed Snider. To blame...

They Call Him The Bryz... Flyers Goalie Sounds Off...

((HT: CSN Philly)) Ilya Bryzgalov has been known for his, how do we say this, um... independence... He naps on the bench and, allegedly, in team meetings. He's a free spirit. And he doesn't care what you think... Evidenced by his thoughts after the Philadelphia Flyers got to clean out their lockers and were reinforced by GM Paul Holmgren's thoughts that Peter...

Thoughts As The Playoffs Start

from Elliotte Friedman of CBC, - We may see some tinkering with draft lottery odds. On HNIC Radio, Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said one potential idea is determining each team's chances by percentage of points in the overall "pool," instead of standings. The fourteen teams that missed the playoffs combined for 635 points. Florida -- which was 30th -- had 36...
