NHL frenzy is about to begin as the free-agent market is set to open today at noon ET.  There are several big names that could find new homes.

The salary cap is set for $70.2 million.

New Jersey Devils captain Zach Parise and Nashville Predators defenseman Ryan Suter are the top names appearing to be ready to listen to offers, but a new player has jumped into the mix after New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur hired an agent.   

Brodeur hired agent Pat Brisson to help field offers if he makes it to unrestricted free agency.  Brodeur in his 20-year career with the Devils has always represented himself in contract negations with the team and has never made it to UFA status.  

Brodeur reached Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final in his last season of a six-year, $5.2 million annual salary but a new deal with the Devils doesn't appear to be likely.

Other notable names hitting the market with their 2011-12 stats are forwards:

Pa Parenteau
Regular Season: 80 games, 67 points, 18 goals, 49 assists.

Dustin Penner
Regular Season: 65 games, 17 points, 7 goals, 10 assists.
Playoffs: 11 points, 3 goals, 8 assists.

Jiri Hudler
Regular Season: 81 games, 50 points, 25 goals, 25 assists.
Playoffs: 2 points, 2 goals.

Defensemen:

Jason Garrison
Regular Season: 33 points, 16 goals, 17 assists.
Playoffs: 3 points, 1 goal, 2 assists.

Matt Carle
Regular Season: 38 points, 4 goals, 34 assists.
Playoffs: 6 points, 2 goals, 4 assists.

Talented Washington Capitals forward Alexander Semin will likely find a new home but so far he's not generating much interest.  Semin is seen as a risk to teams because his production has dropped in recent seasons.  He scored 40 goals with 80 points in 2009-10, but only 54 points in the past two seasons, with just 21 goals last season.   

Shane Doan may join Brodeur if the Phoenix Coyotes don't offer him a long term deal, while Teemu Selanne has yet to say if he will play another season.  

Possible top players that could be traded within the next weeks are Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo, Columbus captain Rick Nash and Anaheim forward Bobby Ryan.
