Arron Asham, having worn number 45 for the majority of his NHL tenure with the Canadiens, Flyers and Islanders (he wore 22 in his short time with the New Jersey Devils), is the best NHL athlete to have pulled on this sweater number.
Asham began playing in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens during the 1998-99 season at age 20. He wouldn't see his first NHL point until the following season however. After being traded to the New York Islanders, Asham would get some significant playing time and come into his own, racking up 34 points. That would begin a streak of seven consecutive seasons in which Asham would score double-digits.
