The NHL suspended Colorado Avalanche forward Kevin Porter for four games because of a kneeing infraction, and issued an indefinite ban to Edmonton Oilers defenseman Andy Sutton on Thursday. Porter was punished for kneeing Vancouver forward David Booth on Tuesday night and will lose $18,378.36 in salary. The hit occurred at 11:52 of the first period, and Porter was given a major penalty and was ejected. Booth sprained a ligament in his right knee and is expected to be sidelined for 4-to-6 weeks. Porter will be eligible to return Dec. 17 against Washington. Sutton is waiting to find out how long he will be sidelined following his hit on Carolina forward Alexei Ponikarovsky during the third period of Edmonton's 5-3 home loss Wednesday night. Sutton has been given the option of having an in-person hearing with the league, the NHL said Thursday on its website. He received a five-game suspension earlier this season for a hit to the head of Colorado's Gabriel Landeskog on Oct. 28. Sutton could be facing a harsher penalty because he is a repeat offender.
