thCA2KQG4W NHL Unsung Heroes: Los Angeles Kings Dustin Brown

Every team, every game, has a hero. In hockey there’s usually more than one hero per team. Some like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Alex Ovechkin and even Steven Stamkos are always at the top of the headlines, appearing in numerous All Star games and Olympic events. Others go about the business of trying to win games for their team without much fanfare. This week’s “Unsung Hero” is the Los Angeles Kings Dustin Brown.

When you think of LA the names that probably spring to mind are Jonathan Quick and Mike Richards. Brown’s a great player in his own right though, producing 54 points and a team-best plus-18 rating while appearing in every game last season. Brown was also key during the Kings’ 2012 Stanley Cup run, posting 20 points and a plus-16 rating in 20 games.

Though a hard-hitter on the ice, Brown’s got a soft side to him. He showed that during his day with the Cup this past summer, arranging for a photo session in his hometown of Ithaca, New York to benefit Semper Fi. A nonprofit fund which financially supports ill or injured members of the Armed Forces as well as their families, it’s something close to Brown’s heart because his wife’s cousin, Christopher, was wounded and later died following a January 2012 suicide bombing in Afghanistan.  (Source: Los Angeles Kings)

This just goes to show that some hockey players, even those thought to be tough, have soft sides.
