NHL Wednesday bets: Looking to more shots and goals

We had ourselves a nice Tuesday here on the ice, and the best course of action is straightforward: keep winning. Here's a quartet of selections worth some consideration for Wednesday in the NHL.

Carter Verhaeghe over 2.5 SOG (-110 FD)

It's expected that Aleksander Barkov will be out tonight, which should mean continued shot volume from Carter Verhaeghe. In 24 games with Barkov in the lineup, Verhaeghe is averaging 2.75 shots per game. In the eight games without Barkov, that number shoots up to 4.13 SOG/game.

Verhaeghe has been one of the steadiest shot performers this year, and at home, he's over 2.5 shots in 79% of games. While the Devils are one of the tighter teams to shots, I like the Panthers to overcome that and get at least 30+ shots off this evening. Verhaeghe had three shots against New Jersey just four days ago.

JT Compher over 1.5 SOG & Sam Reinhart point (+165 DK)

There are no shortage of shot options available to us on the Colorado end. Montreal has been getting absolutely peppered by shots lately, and the Avs are finding their offensive groove again.

One player I'm particularly drawn to is JT Compher, who centers Colorado's top line. Compher has two or more shots in five of his last six. There is a clear inflection point for the Avs offense, three games ago when Evan Rodrigues returned to the lineup.

Compher has 20 attempts and 11 SOG in that span, and I like him to notch two with relative ease tonight.

To bring the play to plus-money, I'm pairing with Sam Reinhart to log a point. Florida will see New Jersey's backup netminder tonight, so I like them to grab 3-5 goals here. Reinhart has eight points in his last four games, has 1+ in eight of his last nine at home, and has three points in his last two against the Devils.

.5u: Mikko Rantanen & Jason Robertson over 3.5 SOG (+201 CZR)

Let's double-dip on the Colorado end, and there's nowhere to look other than with Mikko Rantanen. Back to that inflection point I mentioned, Rantanen has been leading the charge. He's launched 35 attempts over the past three games, resulted in 20 shots on goal. Over 3.5 in four of his last five and with some power play opportunities coming down the runway, I'm confident he hits four shots.

We'll pair with another stud in Jason Robertson. Robertson finally got back to producing last game, finishing with six SOG and a goal on eight attempts.

Robertson is back in the friendly confines of Dallas, a location he's put up 4+ SOG in 10 of his last 12 games. Edmonton is always a good shot target, and Robertson finished with 10 shots and three points when these two met in early November.

Dallas over 2.5 goals & Minnesota over 3.5 goals, both in regulation (+147 DK)

Just a simple play here. The numbers suggest both Dallas and Minnesota should pile up goals, but I can't quite put my finger on who is going to be involved at the moment.

Instead of opting for a player, let's just root on some goals. Note that these team totals are both for regulation. The Stars have notched three goals at home in 12 of 15.

Minnesota has scored 4+ goals against Anaheim in six of the last seven meetings, including both games this year. They should have no problem tonight, with a power play edge coming as well.
