Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith was named the NHL's First Star for February on Thursday.
Smith won all 11 of his starts this month, posting a slim 1.42 goals-against average and an impressive .952 save percentage. The 29-year-old Smith set a franchise mark for consecutive wins and has the Coyotes in first place in the Pacific Division.
Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson secured the second star after amassing seven goals and 11 assists during his current eight-game point streak. The 21-year-old blue-liner collected three game-winning goals during the month.
Tampa Bay Lightning stud Steven Stamkos was named the NHL's third star after recording 11 goals and 11 assists last month. The 22-year-old Stamkos has 44 tallies this season - seven more than Pittsburgh Penguins phenom Evgeni Malkin.
