There’s no denying that the Chicago Blackhawks have plenty of problems to deal with right now. Their power play is slumping, their penalty kill has struggled all year, and Marian Hossa is nowhere to be found. However, of all these problems require a good deal of work while there’s one problem that can be solved with the flick of Joel Quenneville’s pencil.

Sure, at first glance Boynton is better than any defender not named Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, or Brian Campbell, but that’s strictly looking at the stat sheet. His eight points and plus-2 are better than Jordan Hendry and Nick Leddy combined. But we know better.
