After two straight days of practice, it seems as though Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom will be ready to play Saturday evening against the San Jose Sharks. Backstrom believes that he will be ready to face the Sharks. However, that decision will rest with the Washington Capitals athletic training staff, but for the time being, he seems as ready as anyone. Head Coach Dale Hunter acknowledges that all things are pointing towards the Capitals number one center playing tomorrow night against the Sharks. He also stated that Backstrom will continue to be monitored until game time. The concern for Backstrom comes from him taking an elbow to the head from Rene Bourque on Tuesday night when the Capitals faced the Calgary Flames. It occurred with approximately 3 minutes and 19 seconds left in regulation. Backstrom has suffered from migraine headaches in his past, which may play a part in the decision making process.
