Photo courtesy of Bruce Bennett/Getty Images With less than a minute remaining in a tightly contested battle between the Philadelphia Flyers and Detroit Red Wings, the 6-3, 218 pound forward Johan Franzen tried to manuever into scoring position in front of Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov. With one goal already on the night and time winding down, “The Mule,” as he is often called, was hungry for the game-tying tally. But with the correct spelling of his last name on his jersey for the first time in his NHL career, Nicklas Grossmann had other ideas. Grossmann, in only his eighth game as a Flyer, tied up Franzen and rode him into the net.  His efforts earned a stoppage of play, but most importantly, ended any scoring threat than the burly Franzen posed to Philadelphia. Prior to the Flyers’ acquisition of Grossmann, the team’s defense had come under fire for a perceived lack of physicality, especially in front of their own net. Panthers look to pounce on injured Flyers

Tune into FOX Sports Florida at 7 p.m. to watch the Florida Panthers take on the Philadelphia Flyers. NHL Panthers territory. Injuries continue to plague the Philadelphia Flyers, but at least Ilya Bryzgalov's play no longer seems to be. With the Flyers possibly further depleted up front, they might need another strong performance from Bryzgalov if they're going to post...

Philadelphia Flyers coach flicks off the referee

Via @BrianBrown25An unsportsmanlike penalty was called on Philadelphia Flyer Zac Rinaldo for hitting a Detroit Red Wings player in the back. After this, the Philadelphia Flyers coach flicked off the referee. Peter Laviolette (the Flyers coach) better watch it when the cameras are on him.

Flyers Hope Their ‘Sweater Streak’ Continues

from Frank Seravalli of Frequent Flyers at the Philadelphia Daily News, On Monday at practice, Flyers coach Peter Laviolette was asked whether an important on-ice ceremony – like watching Mark Howe’s No. 2 being raised to the rafters tonight at the Wells Fargo Center – can help motivate his players. Initially, I dismissed the notion. How could a player who most of these current...

Video: Kronwall levels Flyers W with huge hit

Niklas Kronwall’s hit on Jakub Voracek Tuesday night was one that you could feel through the TV. The Red Wings were playing the Flyers in Detroit and almost midway through the second period Kronwall laid the back of his shoulder into the body of Voracek and absolutely crushed him. Voracek got up immediately following the hit but had very little understanding of where he was...

Flyers retire Mark Howe's No. 2

The Philadelphia Flyers have retired former defenseman Mark Howe's No. 2 and raised the number to the rafters. Howe was honored before Tuesday night's game against the Detroit Red Wings. Howe is a pro scout for the Red Wings and players for both teams stayed on the bench to watch the ceremony. Howe is Philadelphia's career leader in goals, assists and points for a defenseman...

Flyers Recall Harry Z

The Flyers just announced that they have recalled Brandon Manning. They have also recalled forward Harry Zolnierczyk from Adirondack.

Wings Niklas Kronwall tattoos Flyers Jakub Voracek

If Flyers winger Jakub Voracek has never met Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall before, he still hasn't. Voracek, skating with his head down just inside his own zone, looked up and Kronwall planted him into the Wells Fargo Arena ice surface. Voracek had his head down, picked it up for a split second to see the brick wall wearing #55 in red and white.

Flyers Agree To Contract With Goalie

Paul Holmgren announced that the Flyers have agreed to a two-year contract beginning in 2012-2013 with Ohio State goalie Cal Heeter.

Jakub Voracek was blasted last night by Nicklas Kronwall

This is painful to watch.  The Flyers are up in arms about this hit delivered by the Detroit Red Wings Nicklas Kronwall, but it looks relatively clean if you ask me, just the timing was really crappy for Voracek.  He did get him in the head, but it doesn’t appear to be the intent

Bryzgalov leads Flyers past Panthers

Ilya Bryzgalov made 28 saves to record his second shutout in three games and the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Florida Panthers 5-0 on Thursday night for their fourth straight win. Brayden Schenn, Matt Read, Scott Hartnell, Jaromir Jagr and Eric Wellwood scored for the Flyers. Bryzgalov has finally played like the goalie the Flyers expected when they gave him a $51 million, nine...
