The New York Islanders have now dropped 1-6-3 in their last ten games following a 4-1 loss in Sunday night's game versus the Vancouver Canucks.  The Islanders look to rebound from this skid beginning on Tuesday, when they return home to Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, to face their rival, New York Rangers.  This game will be the start of a great test for the Islanders, who will face three of the original six teams on their homestretch this week, as the Rangers will be entering Tuesday night's game following a six game winning-streak.

 Also building on some success of his own is 19-year-old Swiss native Nino Niederreiter.  Niederreiter, the New York Islanders' fifth overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, suffered a groin injury in an Islanders preseason game against the New Jersey Devils on Sept. 24.  Nino had since been day-to-day on the IR, until recently being sent to the Islanders' AHL equivalent, Bridgeport Sound Tigers, to play a maximum of two weeks on conditioning assignment.  RW forward Nino Niederreiter recorded three goals in his last three games with the Sound Tigers (his third goal being on a penalty shot), as well as one assist and a +4 rating. Niederreiter has been re-called from Bridgeport as of today and is eligible to play for the New York Islanders on Tuesday.

The Islanders have accumulated a League-low 29 goals through 14 games, all without Niederreiter in the line-up.  Islanders Head Coach Jack Capuano has recently made some changes to his lines in order to spark more offense.  However, John Tavares and the Islanders' top line still remain the key offensive contributors for this struggling team.  Nino Niederreiter may be the offensive threat the Islanders are missing.

Niederreiter last played for the Islanders on a nine game NHL tryout in 2010, before being sent back to his WHL team, the Portland Winterhawks.  Through 55 games in Portland, Niederreiter finished his sophomore WHL season with 41 goals and 29 assists for a combined total of 70 points. Expect Niederreiter to be in the line-up for the New York Islanders in his 2011 NHL season debut on Tuesday, Nov. 15, versus the New York Rangers.
