A Dream Career

Andrew Ladd was born on December 12th 1985 in Maple Ridge, British Columbia. Like so many West Coast boys born in 1985, he became a hockey player and a very successful one at that!

Ladd is one of the lucky to have two Stanley Cups with two different teams in a career that is still going strong.

Ladd started his Junior Hockey career in the British Columbia Hockey League with the Coquitlam Express where he recorded 15 goals and 40 assists in 58 games.

After one season in the BCHL, he moved on to the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League. He had 75 points in his rookie season – best in the league for first year players and he finished an impressive 15th in league scoring.

He also led the WHL in plus/minus that season. His strong play in Junior resulted in the Carolina Hurricanes selecting him in the first round of the NHL Draft – fourth overall in 2004.

From Maple Ridge to Winnipeg, Ladd has Succeeded

Ladd played only two seasons with the Hitmen before turning pro. In 2005-2006 he was assigned to the Lowell Lock Monsters of the AHL where he would play only half a season before being called up by the Carolina Hurricanes in November of 2005.

Ladd spent some time injured that year, some more time back in the AHL and then back to the NHL for Carolina’s playoff run – a stretch in which he recorded five points in 17 games during Carolina’s improbable Stanley Cup run! A Stanley Cup in his first year was a sign of things to come.

By the 2006-2007 season, Ladd was a full-time NHLer but unfortunately sustained another injury that kept him out for a period of time.

In his third season, Ladd was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks where he would be reunited with former team mates Troy Brouwer, Brent Seabrook and Colin Fraser.

It wouldn’t be too long before Ladd would celebrate his second Stanley Cup win in 2010.

On July 1st, 2010 Ladd was traded to Atlanta along with Dustin Byfuglien, Ben Eager and Brent Sopel. That season, Ladd was named captain of the Atlanta Thrashers and was named Team MVP for that season.

The 2011-2012 season saw even more change for Andrew Ladd – his franchise Atlanta was relocated to Winnipeg.

Later that summer, Ladd signed a five-year $22 million extension with the Winnipeg Jets and he remains captain of that team to date.
