Drafted by Chicago in 2004 (7/214).
Troy Brouwer, a winger for the NHL’s Washington Capitals was born on August 17th, 1985 in Vancouver, British Columbia and grew up knowing that he would one day be an NHL player.
He attended North Delta Secondary School and crafted his game as a member of the Vancouver Minor Hockey program.
Brouwer was an impressive prospect from an early age.
Unlike the majority of the West Coast Boys, he skipped the British Columbia Junior Hockey League and went directly to the Western Hockey League to join the Moose Jaw Warriors, a team that he spent five years with.
He went from playing 13 games and zero points in his first year to 72 games and 102 points in his fifth year as a Warrior, claiming the Bobby Clark Award for the WHL’s leading scorer in 2006.
#20 - Troy Brouwer
After Brouwer’s third season in Moose Jaw, he was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks – in the seventh round – 214th overall. After his fifth and final season in Major Junior, 2006-2007, Brouwer was assigned to Chicago’s AHL affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals.
He was mighty impressive that year recording 79 points and was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team and to the WHL Second All-Star Team.
Later that season, Brouwer would get a taste of the NHL – he played 10 games for the up-and-coming Hawks.
The beginning of the 2007-2008 season saw Brouwer back in the minors, this time to Chicago’s new AHL affiliate the Rockford IceHogs.
Brouwer played well enough that season to once again get called up by the Chicago Blackhawks.
He recorded his first NHL point on March 23, 2008 against the St. Louis Blues.
June 9th, 2010 represented the biggest day in Troy Brouwer’s hockey career – the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup that day – the pinnacle of anyone’s hockey career!
On June 24, 2011 Brouwer was traded to the Washington Capitals where he remains now as one of the more consistent Capitals forwards.
