Marty Reasoner. Good On Faceoffs. Whoo Hoo! Source: Yardbarker

Originally I was hoping that  Dale Tallon and Stan Bowman could pull off some sort of trade that would bring one of the players that the cash strapped  Chicago Blackhawks needed to unload.  I was thinking of Big Buff, Andrew Ladd, or even Kris Versteeg.  Not Marty Reasoner who was recently traded to Chicago from the Atlanta Thrashers, and never got the chance to dress for the Cup Champs.

So Reasoner  gets to bring his talents to South Florida.  Wow I can’t believe I just typed that.  Any you read it too!

While Chicago continues to try and fit players under the cap, they are running out of teams in the east that are not playoff bound to deal with.  Florida is one of the last with the New York Islanders still on the radar.  Screams for wanting Brian Campbell  instead of Reasoner were heard, but face it kids, this organization cannot afford a $7.5 million dollar per year defenceman.

Jeff Taffe  and his accumulated sky miles get to leave the drek of South Florida and go to the Championship town of Chicago.  Now let’s see, he also played for the Cup winning Shitsspurgh Penguins didn’t he?  Yes, but he didn’t appear in any playoff games.  Still not too shabby for a journeyman center huh?  Well Dale, please, no more Panthers going to the Blackhawks.  I wouldn’t want the Ex-Panther factor affecting them!  Although Taffe still has to make the team, and that is a huge question mark.

If the season started tonight  our four centers would be Little Stevie, Rhino, The Bachelor, and Reasoner.  Although the last two could flip flop, it really doesn’t matter.  This foursome will never be confused with the Fab Four as far as celebrity status is concerned.  On top of that no team is going to be frightened to face this lineup, almost laughing at them.  We might as well be talking about Seinfeld, Kramer, George, and Neuman for godakes.

Reasoner a 33 year old center has one year left on his contract that is valued at $1.15 million, although I wouldn’t be expected to see a banner year out of him in an effort to push for a bigger deal for next time..  He scored only four times last year, and his best season was in the ‘02-’03 with Edmonton when he somehow accumulated 31 points.  No offence Marty, but this is really a salary dump for the Hawks.  You coming here for Jeff Taffe isn’t even about trading two guys that need a change of scenery. A sort of dismantling in Chicago if you will, as the boys from Second City Hockey  will describe it as.

Once again a journeyman finds his way into the South Florida lineup, which seemingly happens every offseason.  I can’t fault Tallon for the move.  It’s an upgrade from Taffe for sure, but you now know pretty much the game plan for this season.  Survive it, and wait till next year.

In other news, the Florida Panthers have cut their ties with the Florida Everblades!  Wow! That came out of left field.  You can read more about it here.

That’s it for now gang.  Stay dry if you live or are in the South Florida area this weekend.  We have one of those tropical things going on.

Thanks for reading.
