Friday night was one of those evenings where it did not matter if you were a New York Ranger or a New York Islander fan as if you loved hockey then this was your kind of night.Islander's First Star John Persson
We have to start with the Islander First Star John Persson (2011 5th) as we watched prospects have an impact on games but right now Persson is playing as good as anyone in any CHL league. Right now Persson is the guy who when the game was on the line is making the plays and is helping decide the outcome.
The Red Deer Rebels currently have the best winning percentage in the WHL and after defeating the Kamloops Blazers are 5-0-0-1. Want to guess which player also has a 6 game scoring streak going?
Friday night was a good evening for the Islander prospects as we wound up awarding 4 stars and could have given a 5th. It was a night where both well known as well as the unknown prospects stood out.
The Islander report can be found right here
Ranger Stars Michael St. Croix/Shane McColgan
If you are a fan of Brandon Prust, Ryan Callahan or even Sean Avery then boy you would have loved watching Michael St. Croix (2011 4th) and Shane McColgan (2011 5th) going at it with each other.
This is very much one of those games where the stat sheet is not going to tell you the story of this game. St. Croix and his Edmonton Oil Kings were in Kelowna to face McColgan's Kelowna Rockets and the score (Kelowna a 2-1 winner via the shootout) is not going to tell you how entertaining as well as how hard these 2 went after each other.

We have watched Ranger prospects go against each other but this one was a gem because whatever one prospect gave, the other prospect gave right back. Shot for shot, hit for hit and even in the shoot out when McColgan scored, it was St. Croix as the very next shooter answering his goal with one of his own.
Yes neither prospect scored (which ended St. Croix's 12 game scoring streak) but give the credit to the 2 goalies playing in this game. Both had scoring chances and both were stoned by an excellent save.
The Ranger report may not have as much offense as the Islander report does but it has it's own highlights including the return of Dylan McIlrath to the Moose Jaw lineup. The Ranger report can be found right here.
We also updated our Ranger player/prospect/media twitter lists thanks to Darren Colvil (@dcolvil) and if the Islander fans have a twitter list that they want to share we would be glad to do the same thing for you guys as we have with the Rangers.
Just let us know and we will post it up (just show some mercy to us and do it during the week please)
(Persson- Red Deer Rebels, St. Croix- Edmonton Oil Kings, McColgan- Kelowna Rockets)

Time for Dubious Dubinsky to Break Out of Slump
Over the summer the New York Rangers re-signed 25-year-old forward Brandon Dubinsky to a new contract that would pay him $16.8 million over the next four years. At the time, Dubinsky was coming off a career season in which he led the entire Blueshirt squad in scoring with 24 goals and 54 points. In fourteen games so far this season, however, Dubinsky's production has been subpar...
Rangers Soaring – Reasons for Optimism
This streak is why Rangers fans have reason to be excited. The Rangers are getting better every game. They are doing the little things right and the confidence levels are only going one way; up. If the Rangers continue to play this way the next three games are all very winnable. All of a sudden we’re talking about a nine game winning streak and a huge dose of momentum to carry...
Sean Avery Reminds Us How Important He Can Be For Rangers
Last night Sean Avery showed just how effective he can be
for the New York Rangers. In the end he
was not the star of the show as Brandon Dubinsky scoring his first goal of the
year took away much of the spotlight, but Avery was the Rangers best forward
for two periods. Avery provided energy
when much of the lineup was lacking it, scored a beautiful goal top shelf over...
Torts: Girardi is an All Star Player
John Tortorella continued his own personal All Star campaign for Dan Girardi by saying this about the Rangers defenseman to Blueshirts United..."He's turned into an All-Star player," noted the head coach. "He does everything. That's the simplest way to put it. He does everything there is for us, and he's the most underrated defenseman in the league. You...
Welcome Back Dubinsky
Chris Trotman/Getty Images
It took a lot longer than anyone expected, but New
York Rangers forward Brandon Dubinsky has finally tallied his first goal of the
season. The level of relief on the face
of Dubinsky immediately following the puck hitting the back of the net showed
just how much the drought was weighing on the 25-year-old forward. As he said postgame...
Postgame: Rangers Make it Six, Beat Hurricanes with Explosive 3rd Period
Before the game I spoke about the lack of production beyond the top offensive line for the Rangers, despite the team being on a five-game winning streak at the time. Tonight, in their 5-1 defeat of the Carolina Hurricanes to make it six straight, the secondary scoring responded with an astounding performance and happened to score all five goals for New York. If you would've showed...
Video: Girardi, Boyle and Avery Talk About Win Over Hurricanes
… what a win. And what a goal by Sean Avery in the 1st period. Pure sniper shot there. Dan Girardi once again played an AMAZING game and deserves to make the All-Star team already. Do not forget that the Dan Girardi write in campaign for the NHL All Star Game starts on Monday!
Girardi not put on All-Star ballot
The Rangers have four players on the NHL All-Star ballot, none of whom is named Dan Girardi. This omission does not please John Tortorella, the coach who has been touting the defenseman's value all season.
"This league. . ." Tortorella began with a fair measure of disgust when asked for his...
Richards Failing To Pay Dividends For Rangers?
Rapid reactions to moves made over the summer are part of
the way the sports world operates so it is not surprising that TSN took a look at the best and
worst unrestricted free agent moves of the summer thus far. It is also not surprising that is numbers
that become the focal point of assessing impact on the team, and accordingly
they viewed Brad Richards move to the Rangers...
Sunday Reads
Morning all, although only just for me as its almost midday here in the UK as I’m typing this… On a relatively quiet weekend for the Rangers (how often does a team get Saturday AND Sunday off?) its time to take a look around the Rangers universe at some of the more interesting reads.
Nick over at Rangers Tribune makes a very valid point (at least in my opinion, as well as his...
The Pass - Hurricanes @ Rangers Post Game Thoughts…
This game, to me, came down to 1 moment. It happened at 2:31 in the video above. I want to know how the hell Brad Richards saw Dan Girardi. Look at his head. He is facing the goalie, and Girardi is skating in from behind, out of his periphery (you would think). I seriously have no frikkin clue how the hell Richards saw Girardi. I’ve seen the replay like 20 times and...
Weight Lifted Off Dubi's Back
I don't think I've ever seen such relief during a celebration of a goal the way Brandon Dubinsky did last night. Let's hope now that he's gotten his first out of the way they will come in bunches for him now (pic via Blueshirts United)......love this pic because of Boyle's reaction. You know the rest of the team was pulling for Dubinsky to finally score and I...
Rangers score 4 goals in third, cruise past 'Canes
NEW YORK (AP) Dan Girardi and Brandon Dubinsky scored 9 seconds apart midway through the third period and the New York Rangers
went on to rout the Carolina Hurricanes 5-1 on Friday night for their sixth straight win.
Dubinsky scores 1st goal to fuel Rangers
Sheer unadulterated joy was written all over Brandon Dubinsky’s face sky as he threw his head back and raised his arms to the sky after slamming a Ryan Callahan rebound into a wide open net to give the Rangers a 3-1 lead over the Hurricanes at 10:56 of...
Avery's goal sparks Rangers win over 'Canes
Friday night at the Garden, Eric Staal's high-sticking penalty on Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi cut a third-period Carolina power play short, and the Blueshirts responded with three goals in three minutes on the way to a 5-1 victory over the Hurricanes.
