Hello Again Old Foe
Canucks gameday links: NWSB Matchup Insight | NWSB Preview + Prediction
The Vancouver Canucks host the Boston Bruins in their long-awaited return to Rogers Arena tonight over two years after their victory in Game Seven of the Stanley Cup Final.
With pride and a pair of undefeated streaks on the line the Canucks and Bruins are poised for a spirited bout on Hockey Night in Canada.
Luongo Locked In
After shutting out the Edmonton Oilers last night Roberto Luongo will return to the crease to take on the Boston Bruins once again on home ice. Luongo made 19 saves against the Oilers last night but can expect a heavier work load in part two against a proven Bruins team.
Garrison Getting It Done
Jason Garrison lead the Canucks with three assists last night against the Oilers, adding to an already impressive scoring burst.
Roberto Luongo remains in the crease tonight to face an old foe.
Garrison now has one goal and eight assists over his last six games which has played a big part in Vancouver’s recent winning streak.
Look for Garrison to get open and let that big shot fly when the Canucks find themselves with the man advantage.
The Boston Bruins are one seriously beat up hockey team. Battling injury, suspension, and the flu, the Bruins will need to summon all the energy they can tonight in what promises to be an emotional game at Rogers Arena.
The Bruins will be without Loui Eriksson, Chris Kelly, and the exiled Shawn Thornton tonight.
Jarome Iginla may not have been with the Bruins during their 2011 Cup run, however he is a veteran when it comes to emotional games against the Canucks.
Iginla has had his fair share of battles in Vancouver, but the former Flames captain will have to take on a new role tonight in his first game at Rogers Arena with the new team.
Iginla tallied 28 goals and 45 assists in 89 regular season games against the Canucks during his career in Calgary and enters tonight’s game on a hot streak with three goals in his last three games.
No Such Thing As Tired
While tonight’s game is the second in back-to-back nights for the Canucks after enjoying three days rest earlier this week the team has no excuses in a statement game for the Canucks.
While John Tortorella was quick to downplay the importance of tonight’s game for his team I feel the scars run deeper for those who were there to feel the sting of falling one game short of the Stanley Cup.

BEST OF MAXIM
Roberto Luongo made 19 saves for his 65th career shutout and the Vancouver Canucks beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-0 on Friday night for their sixth straight victory.
After losing a shutout bid in the final seconds Sunday in a victory over Colorado, Luongo moved within one of Hall of Famer Patrick Roy for 14th place on the career list. Luongo has three shutouts this season.
Bruins winger Brad Marchand got under the Vancouver Canucks skin YET AGAIN. He kissed his ring finger in front of one of the Sedin sisters in EPIC taunting fashion.
And Ryan Kesler is saying that Marchand was classless:
“Obviously no class,’’ Kesler said of Marchand. “I’m a firm believer you win with class and you lose with class, and it’s all I got to say about that...
The Bruins are no strangers to losing top-level talent to questionable on-ice hits. One of those hits is the reason forward Shawn Thornton was suspended 15 games on Saturday.
Thornton was suspended until mid-January for his actions in a game against Pittsburgh last week. The Bruins forward attacked Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik after the D-man refused to fight Thornton shortly...
Vancouver Canucks head coach John Tortorella is desperately seeking someone to mesh with the Sedin twins during the injury to Alex Burrows, but it won't be Zack Kassian, at least not for now.
The Canucks’ coach admitted Thursday he simply doesn't trust Kassian enough to put him in a position where he might be matched up against the opposition's top six. So it will...
Bobby Robins has been busy his last Five for Fighting feature. Robins has already amassed 88 penalty minutes this season in 18 games for the Providence Bruins. In November, Robins tallied 67 penalty minutes over 11 games, but has only 12 in six games this December. In addition to his two fights in December, Robins has tallied three assists over six games and has improved his season...
Bruins forward Shawn Thornton learned his fate on Saturday afternoon, and unsurprisingly, he and the Bruins don’t have much to say about the situation — at least not yet.
Thornton was suspended 15 games for his actions in a Dec. 7 game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Boston enforcer left Pittsburgh defenseman Brooks Orpik with a concussion after pulling him down and punching...
Bruins forward Milan Lucic doesn’t drop the glove with the same regularity that he did when he was a younger player. When the big winger shed his mitts, though, it still means trouble for whoever is about to be on the receiving ends of some menacing fists.
Lucic racked up 13 fighting majors in his rookie season of 2007-08, according to HockeyFights.com. His talents have developed...
Sometimes bad memories fade away but all it takes it takes is a single gesture to remind some of the day of dreams lost.In this case, it took two.The Vancouver Canucks beat the Boston Bruins 6-2 on Saturday, so you could say they got the last laugh but the Bruins Brad Marchand made sure his hand motions evoked memories of the Bruins’ victory over the Canucks in the 2011 Stanley...
You figured the NHL was going to make an example out of Shawn Thornton for what he did, and it appears the league will do just that. The Boston Bruins' forward will be suspended 15 games for his actions toward Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik. Thornton slew footed Orpik from behind in a scrum, and then punched him twice while he was down, knocking out Orpik on the...
It is a near certainty that no one would ever accuse the Bruins' Brad Marchand of being a classy player. A good player? Yes. A guy you love when he's on your team but hate when he's employed by the other guy? Absolutely. There's something to be said about getting into your opponents' head, but when you're doing it during a game that you're losing by a...
Last night was ugly.
How ugly was it?
The game was so ugly that Jon wouldn't even sleep with it. The game was soooo ugly.
But how ugly was it?
So ugly that Robb thought he was looking at a reflection in the mirror. The game was soooo ugly.
But how ugly was it?
So ugly that I have no idea why you're reading this recap.
Bruins absolutely **** themselves...
The only things fans of the Boston Bruins love more than the Spoked B are family and friends (sometimes that’s even be up for debate). However, when Big Bad Bruins Nation member Adrian Clifford shared her story about her Bruins themed engagement/wedding, the love for her husband and her adopted hockey team (she is from Florida originally and loved college football) were just fit...
A letter submitted to the Montreal Gazette...
Indulge me for a moment while I blame the victim of the recent James Neal/Brad Marchand incident during a Penguins vs. Bruins NHL game.
Let’s suppose it had been the well respected Patrice Bergeron instead of Marchand in a defenceless position on the ice. It would not be shocking to see James Neal pull a hamstring in trying...

The Boston Bruins unsuccessfully concluded a four-game, six-day journey in Canada with an unbeaten record. Heading into the fourth and final game on the Canadian road trip, the team had previously defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers.
Momentum carried the Vancouver Canucks in their win 6-2 over the Boston Bruins...
"You learn as you grow up, as you go through things, and you learn more from the bad experiences than the good ones. Obviously I went through a lot during that Stanley Cup final with things that happened on the ice and mostly things that happened off the ice. That, plus my situation the last two years when I lost the net ... (humor) helps you cope with things, it helps you get...
