New York Rangers winger Marian Gaborik will undergo surgery next week to repair a labral tear in his right shoulder that could sideline him for the start of next season.
Gaborik, who played in all of New York's 102 regular-season and playoff games, aggravated what was believed to be a prior issue during the first-round playoff series against the Ottawa Senators.
The 11-year veteran underwent an MRI exam Tuesday and plans to spend the remainder of the week at home in Trencin, Slovakia, before returning to New York next week for surgery.
Gaborik's rehab is expected to take five to six months.
The 30-year-old winger, who finished third in the NHL with 41 goals during the regular season, scored in Game 1 against the Senators and recorded three goals in the second round against the Capitals, including the triple overtime winner in Game 3.
He added one goal in the Eastern Conference finals against the Devils to finish the playoffs with five goals, six assists and 11 points.
