The Philadelphia Flyers, off to a season opening three game winning streak, are in preparations to host the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night.
Much will be made of the return of the team’s former captain, Mike Richards, returning to the only home ice he has ever known in his professional career. And rightfully so, as Richards enjoyed some excellent seasons, most notably the improbable run to the 2010 Eastern Conference championship and a Stanley Cup Final appearance that came two victories short of a championship.
But there is the other half of the trade equation that also warrants observation.
Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds arrived in Philadelphia on June 23, along with uber prospect Brayden Schenn, and throughout the preseason and the first three games of the regular season he has established himself as a vital piece in the Flyers offensive puzzle.
Make no mistake: Simmonds wants to make as much an impression on his former team as Richards does.
