The Edmonton Oilers have finally addressed their glut in goal by placing Jeff Deslauriers on waivers.
Deslauriers will be sent to the Oilers’ Oklahoma City AHL affiliate, if he clears waivers by 10 a.m. tomorrow.With Nikolai Khabibulin holding down the club’s number-one goalie roster spot, Oilers’ GM Steve Tambellini was forced to determine who would be Khabibulin’s backup. It appears as though Devan Dubnyk, who recently spelled off The Bulin Wall in a 3-2 SO loss in Columbus, while facing 41 shots, can now breathe a little easier.
Last year, Deslauriers demonstrated moments of brilliance, as he and Dubnyk filled in for the injured Khabibulin throughout the bulk of what quickly became a nightmare season for the copper and blue. Those moments of stellar play, however, were measured against a glaringly porous glove hand, that occasionally let in 30-foot shots, making him appear rather average.
