Oilers’ Corey Perry becomes 71st player to play in 1300 NHL games

In doing so, Perry became the 71st player in NHL history to reach 1300 games played and the first to do so since Jeff Carter did the same earlier this season. His 901 career points also have tied him with Jamie Benn for 124th in league scoring all-time, and there is still plenty of time for him to keep climbing up the leaderboards.

This is the second major milestone that he has hit this month as he reached the 900-point plateau in his career a little over a week ago during a game against the Canadiens. If he plays his cards right, perhaps Perry can add some more accolades to his resume should the Oilers go on a deep playoff run this spring.

The 28th overall pick of the 2003 NHL Draft has had quite the career so far with many highs and lows. He has been named a four-time All-Star, won the Rocket Trophy and Hart Memorial Trophy once, helped capture gold for Team Canada at the 2010 and 2014 Olympics, the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, and won the 2007 Stanley Cup as a remember of the Ducks.

Since leaving Anaheim during the summer of 2019, Perry has bounced around the league a lot and made three straight trips to the Stanley Cup Finals on three different teams but lost every single one of them. He was a member of the Blackhawks to begin the season but had his contract terminated due to an “alcohol-fueled” incident at a team function. The move was deemed controversial, which prompted an investigation by the NHL and NHLPA, which they and Chicago eventually settled.

Despite all of the off-ice drama overshadowing things, Perry has remained a productive player as a bottom-six option. He has recorded 18 points (10 goals and eight assists) in 43 games split between the Oilers and Blackhawks.
