Edmonton Oilers defenseman Ryan Whitney admitted that he already has an injury to his surgically repaired right ankle.
Whitney told the Edmonton Journal that he has been hobbled for the last month after a skating mishap.
"I rolled over on the foot ... caught a rut in the ice. Minor sprain, I think," Whitney told the newspaper. "I’ll be back in Edmonton on Saturday. I don’t think it’s serious."
Whitney, 28, had season-ending surgery on his right foot in January after rupturing a tendon.
The fifth overall pick of the 2002 draft, Whitney collected two goals, 25 assists and 33 penalty minutes in 35 games last season.
