City, Oilers agree on new arena plan

The Edmonton Oilers and the city have agreed to resurrect a deal to build a new downtown arena. City councilors have voted to accept a cost-shared deal for a $480 million rink. After surrounding infrastructure is added in, the final bill will be $601 million. The money will come from taxpayers, Oilers owner Daryl Katz and a ticket tax. The deal is still more than $100 million short...

Sour Note to Start the Season

After the sweet sounds of a melodious shootout victory in Vancouver, the Edmonton Oilers' home season started on a sour note. Literally. As the Oilers tend to do, they invited a local music artist to sing the national anthems. I don't think that this young lady will be invited back given the reaction from both fans and media on twitter. It's not as though she didn&...

Kings remain winless after OT loss vs. Oilers

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -- Sam Gagner scored a power-play goal 3:01 into overtime and the Edmonton Oilers rallied past the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 on Thursday night, leaving the defending Stanley Cup champions winless in three games this season. Nail Yakupov tied it for the Oilers with 4.7 seconds left in the third period. His exuberant celebration took him to center ice, where he...

Richard Cloutier: Oilers Beat Kings; Refs

Did you just see that? What an absolutely ridiculous game. As much as I'm going to point out how terrible the refs were tonight, they were bad for both teams. The WAY the Ryan Nugent-Hopkins goal was called back was just as stupid as the penalty call itself. But in truth, a decent hockey game occurred, despite the ref's attempts to make it terrible. Both teams were...

Jonathan Quick Amazing Glove Save On Nail Yakupov

The L.A. Kings and Edmonton Oilers have spent nearly the entire game trading off in the penalty box. Jonathan Quick made some unreal saves on the penalty kill, not to mention this robbery on Oilers rookie Nail Yakupov. var conf_57663 = { APIKey: '2_N1YlfjHIEAtyRAK3CAYRE5a1aBuANuMOCLc_7hsOQ13HnwCrW_u-6OuDhjC7vR06 ', lang : 'en', enabledProviders...

Champs get point, but still winless

Sam Gagner scored a power-play goal 3:01 into overtime and the Edmonton Oilers rallied past the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 on Thursday night, leaving the defending Stanley Cup champions winless in three games this season. Nail Yakupov tied it for the Oilers with 4.7 seconds left in the third period. His exuberant celebration took him to center ice, where he dropped to his knees and slid...

Edmonton Oilers Flying V Formation, Jerry Sloan Wearing His Club Shirt & Racist PB&J’s

Do you see random sh$% while driving to work and think it needs to be seen by the masses? Does the guy who sits next to you at work look like a tool on a daily basis? Does your dog lick his balls in an odd fashion? Is your neighbor working on some sort of outer space vehicle behind his shed? We want your WTF photos. Oilers use late rally to beat winless Kings

One of the most bizarre and frustrating a hockey games the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings can remember playing in years ended, fittingly enough, in controversy. It started out that way, too. And, frankly, the middle was all controversial, too. But when the screaming finally stopped, the Edmonton Oilers had somehow pulled out a 2-1 overtime victory from the flaming train...

Could Luongo Save Edmonton?

from Mark Spector of Sportsnet, If the Roberto Luongo to the Edmonton Oilers rumour was an ember, Tuesday's home opener was the can of diesel your brother-in-law leaves by the wood pile. Acquiring Luongo never made a lick of sense to anyone in these parts, until, of course, the Edmonton Oilers played their home opener. After 20 minutes of play the San Jose...

Richard Cloutier: Oilers Not Interested in Luongo, Might Be Interested in O'Reilly?

I spent much of the day calling around my buddies trying to find out if the Roberto Luongo to the Oilers for Sam Gagner had any truth to it. Eventually I received some information that makes way too much sense for it not to be legitimate. Let's start with Devan Dubnyk, because the only reason the Oilers would move for a goalie is if they weren't happy with the one they...

About Last Night…Oilers Get a Flat Rolling on Dub(nyk)s

The Edmonton Oilers found themselves on the short end of a killer first period by the San Jose Sharks in one of the nine games played Tuesday night. Goaltender Devan Dubnyk was shelled by the Sharks to the tune of 17 shots and six goals against in the first 20 minutes. Not surprisingly, the Oilers lost 6-3. Patrick Marleau posted his second consecutive two-goal game while Logan Couture...

Oilers 2, Kings 1

EDMONTON, Alberta -- The Edmonton Oilers, trying to wash away the bitter taste of a home-opening embarrassment, had their hands full with a Los Angeles Kings team desperate for their first win of the season. But they showed what all the buzz was about Thursday with a wild, 2-1 victory at Rexall Place. The Kings thought they had it won in regulation, but Edmonton rookie Nail Yakupov...

Sharks crush Oilers behind six-goal first period

EDMONTON -- The San Jose Sharks are made up of some rather old dogs, but they managed to teach Edmonton's celebrated young pups some new tricks Tuesday. The Sharks rolled up a newspaper and smacked the Oilers in the nose, scoring six goals in the first period of a 6-3 rout at Rexall Place. "We got off to a good start," said Sharks coach Todd McLellan, whose club...

AHAHAHHAA

What was that madness on the first? 6-1? Are you kidding me? Was that for real? It was, as it turns out, since the Sharks, somewhat predictably sat back in the second and part of the third and let the Oilers creep back into the game. Smash their faces into the ice, then offer them a heater and some aspirin. Those are my boys! A full 60 minute game is still elusive, but the season...

Oilers vs. Canucks: Not as bad as the opener…I guess

Love ‘em & Hate ‘em Yeah, the Canucks are back. In their most frustrating form. Not exactly the weekend Canucks fans were waiting on. After the worst case scenario played out Saturday night, the Canucks were thrown back into Rogers Arena for the young and hungry Edmonton Oilers. The good news: It wasn’t as bad as opening day. Technically, it was their best game of the year...
