Oilers fans in disbelief over 2024 Stanley Cup Playoff ticket prices

The playoffs are where players earn their keep — and where the Edmonton Oilers make their money.

Oilers playoff tickets went on sale on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. MT, and a number of Oilers fans took to social media later that day to vent about the sky-high prices of tickets for Games 1 and 2 of the team’s upcoming first round playoff series against either the Vegas Golden Knights or Los Angeles Kings.

A quick glance at Ticketmaster shows that the cheapest seats available for Game 1, which has yet to be scheduled but will be held at Rogers Place in Edmonton, are in the 12th row of section 210 and are currently going for $289.71 (as of 1:00 p.m. MT on Tuesday, April 16).

Want to sit in the lower bowl? That’ll cost you $408.75 per seat, including fees and taxes. The most expensive seats in the house — section 118, row 3, right in front of the Oilers’ attacking zone — are currently listed at $2,956.25 a pop. And that’s just for the first game!

Oilers ticket prices have gone up since the team moved from Rexall Place into Rogers Place back in 2016, but this is something else. Suffice it to say, a vocal group of irritated fans took to Twitter on Tuesday to make their frustrations heard.

“I knew they’d be expensive, but absolutely LOL at Oilers playoff ticket prices (face value),” Marcel Schoenhardt wrote. “I’ll pass, thanks.”

“For laughs I logged into the Oilers playoff tickets [queue],” Cody Stuart added. “$400+ minimum. Mighty tough to be one of them tier one fans these days.”

One fan named Joshua shared his thoughts on why tickets didn’t immediately sell out for Games 1 and 2: “Mix some corporate greed in with a VERY fair weather fan base and you have tickets in the lower bowl in every section available for a playoff game in Edmonton 35 minutes after they went on sale. Remember this when they gaslight you about how passionate Oilers fans are next week.”
