Goaltender Devan Dubnyk signed the contract that makes him Edmonton's goaltender of the future, even though he hasn't quite proven yet that he's up for the job. The Oilers inked the 26-year-old to a two-year, $7 million contract, a big raise from the $800,000 he made last season. Usually a goalie earns a big new contract because he's proven himself to be a starter. In this case, the Oilers dragged their feet on Dubnyk for so long, refusing to give him the ball as long as Nikolai Khabibulin is around, they still don't know whether he can be a 60-game-per-season workhorse. Having been drafted 14th overall in 2004, he is a project eight years in the making and has still only played 101 NHL games. But he was a restricted free agent heading into the summer and is expected to finally get the starting job next season.
