Oilers sign Dubnyk

The Edmonton Oilers signed their de facto "goalie of the future" to a one-year contract today. Dubnyk was a restricted free agent without arbitration rights so this might be viewed as a minor move save for the Liam Reddox news of yesterday.Dubnyk is expected to be the #1 goalie for Springfield in 2009-10 and is likely to play in front of a much better hockey club. Those of us who have been holding out hope for the big goalie have been wondering what DD could do with an experienced lineup in front of him.We're about to find out, and in fact should Dubnyk play well enough it's certainly possible that he'll see some NHL action during 2009-10. With Jeff Deslauriers as the backup in Edmonton, opportunity may come knocking before Christmas.
