Jordan Eberle scored a pair of goals, and the Edmonton Oilers stretched their winning streak to a season-high three games with a 4-1 victory over the Florida Panthers 4-1 on Thursday night.
Sam Gagner and David Perron also scored, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had three assists for the Oilers (7-15-2) who improved to 3-7 at home. Devan Dubnyk made 24 saves in the victory.
Edmonton was 2-9-1 in its 12 games before the winning streak started.
Scottie Upshall had the lone goal for the Panthers (6-13-4), whose two-game winning streak was snapped. Tim Thomas stopped 31 shots.
The Oilers picked up right where they left off Tuesday night in a 7-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets and scored a power-p play goal just 57 seconds in against Florida.
Nugent-Hopkins' point shot deflected into the air, and Eberle batted it past Thomas for his seventh goal. It was Edmonton's 12th straight unanswered goal, dating to a four-goal outburst in the third period of a 4-2 win over Calgary on Saturday.
The Oilers made it 2-0 six minutes into the second period when Nail Yakupov waited out traffic on a 3-on-2 break. He sent a nice pass to the trailing Gagner, who beat Thomas high to the glove side for his first goal of the season.
Edmonton took a three-goal lead just past the mid-mark of the second period with another power-play goal. Perron tipped in his eighth of the season off a one-timer from the top of the circle by defenseman Justin Schultz.
Florida cut its deficit to 3-1 with 3:26 left in the second period. The Panthers caught Edmonton scrambling with defenseman Corey Potter without a stick. Upshall then put a bad-angle shot between Dubnyk and the post.
The Panthers had three power plays in the third period, but were unable to get anything past Dubnyk.
Eberle scored his second of the game into an empty net to put the game away.
The Panthers will wrap up a five-game road trip in Calgary on Friday night.
NOTES: Edmonton topped Florida in the first game of the two-game season series 4-3 in overtime on Nov. 5. Rookie forward Mark Arcobello scored his first two NHL in that one, including the winner. He was a healthy scratch Thursday. The Panthers fired coach Kevin Dineen after that loss and replaced him with Peter Horacheka. ... The Oilers put forward Steven MacIntyre on waivers for the purpose of sending him to Oklahoma City (AHL). ... Panthers D Mike Weaver missed the game with an illness. Forward Scott Gomez sat out for the eighth time because of a groin injury.

David Perron is kind of a jerk.
Which, if you’re the Edmonton Oilers, is kind of awesome.
How long have they been looking for a guy who can play, who nobody really likes playing against? Probably since Esa Tikkanan left.
And Perron, with his hacking at goalies, fencing with opponents, face-washing and running his mouth, as much at home in a scrum as he is around the net, fits...

Here’s a pretty funny moment from last night’s Oilers-Panthers game in Edmonton; During the first period, Oilers youngster Ryan Nugent-Hopkins found himself in a bit of a situation – Tomas Fleischmann’s stick snaked under his visor and got wedged under the helmet.
Hopkins tried to get the stick free...
Fantasy Hockey Transaction Trends: Who is being Added? LW David Perron, Edmonton Oilers: I wonder why? Those 4 point nights will do it for you, however there is much more at play here. Perron is what I like to dub, a stat filler. He’ll spend time in the box because of his fiesty play and often untimely questionable penalties. He can score and he could post career highs this season...
Mark Arcobello and Ryan Jones have played some pretty good hockey for the Oilers of late, but don’t expect either player to draw back into the lineup Thursday against Florida.
With the Oilers on a two-game win streak, head coach Dallas Eakins isn’t all that eager to shake things up.
“I don’t like fooling around with them,” he said of winning lineups. “When you’ve...
Devan Dubnyk was the Oilers first pick in the 2004 draft being selected 14th overall from the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL in a year that he won gold at the World Under 18 Championships with a 3-3 record with 1 shutout and a 2.51 GAA and .917 SV%.
Although the last few games have been a bit of a turn around for the most part, Dubby has had a tough start to this season after coming...
Ryan Smyth of the Edmonton Oilers scored this sweet goal on a saucer pass in the first period of last night’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, showing off some elite hand-eye coordination. His baseball swing finish put the Oilers up 3-0 in the first period; they went on to win 7-0.
The post Ryan Smyth scores a goal on a baseball swing appeared first on The Nosebleeds.
His tenure lasted just two periods, and at that, it was in the Edmonton Oilers final pre-season game. But now that Steve MacIntyre is set to return from the knee injury that ended his time with the team, the Oilers do not have a roster spot.
Not with Luke Gazdic now entrenched on the fourth line.
The Oilers had claimed Gazdic after MacIntyre was hurt.
“He’s been out for a...
Sam Gagner figured it would take some time for him to get his game back up to speed after missing the season’s first 13 with a broken jaw.
Consequently, The Edmonton Oilers centre is not about to start gripping his stick now that he’s gone 10 games without a goal.
“I knew there were going to be some chances that wouldn’t go in this year, and it just so happens it’s all...
The Edmonton Oilers need points to claw their way up the standings.
And even though they were presented with a golden opportunity to pick up two more with the Florida Panthers in town — Which they did fairly easily — they’re at a point where it’s must-win regardless of the opponent.
“We’re kind of at that point, where it doesn’t matter who the opponent is, what their...
After months of silence, former Oilers GM Steve Tambellini was heard from, after a fashion, late Wednesday night, when the Anaheim Ducks announced they had hired him as a part-time pro scout.
Tambellini, 55, served as the Oilers GM from 2008 to 2013 when he was replaced last April by longtime Oilers player and head coach Craig MacTavish.
Tambellini took the wheel of a franchise...
It’s long enough now that you can actually call it a win streak.
The Edmonton Oilers extended their modest, but season-long run to three games in a row Thursday with a 4-1 win over the visiting Florida Panthers.
On the heels of a 4-2 comeback win over Calgary and 7-0 rout of Columbus, the Oilers jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on for their seventh win of the season...
Kip Brennan, the former NHL winger with 222 penalty minutes in just 61 career NHL games, has signed with tier two Russian club Sary-Arka Karaganda. During multiple NHL stints that didn’t total a whole lot of games, Brennan played for the Los Angeles Kings, Atlanta Thrashers, Anaheim Mighty Ducks and the New York Islanders. Brennan’s biggest NHL moment actually came [...]
“There were a couple of incidents where he (Bryzgalov) wasn’t happy with the way our team played in front of him and he did a few things that caused us to say something to him and put him in his place. [He called us out] in not a very professional way. We had to take care of him because it wasn't always about him. It was about the team.
"He was unbelievable, a...
