Us Weekly reported recently that New York Rangers forward Brad Richards has been dumped by girlfriend Olivia Munn.
She ended it with him. She had to. It’s not really complicated. She just realized she liked him as a friend and nothing more.
Ouch! Bad news for Richards. And Rangers fans. Not so much for the rest of the teams in the National Hockey League.
The pair were first spotted together November 10, 2011 having dinner at Spasso in the West Village, according to the New York Post. She then attended the Rangers game at Madison Square Garden the next day.
According to entertainment blog Just Jared the pair actually started dating around October 31st. From then on, the Rangers became one of the very best teams in the NHL.
A Madison Square Garden representative was overheard by Just Jared as saying that Munn had become “Rangers’ good luck charm”.
He wasn’t wrong. Before the 2004 Playoff MVP and Stanley Cup winner and the 31-year-old actress started dating, the Rangers had a 3-3-3 record. Over the span of their relationship, the Blueshirts went on a crazy 24-6-1 run. Paced out over an entire 82-game schedule, that would amount to 129 points. That would be the best total in NHL history!
No wonder Rangers fans loved her. The Post reported about their affection of Munn after a Rangers’ win over the hated cross-town rivals the Islanders on December 26th.
Fans in the crowd kept high-fiving her after the win, and thanking her.
I’m not sure they’ll be doing that any time soon.
Since the breakup was announced on January 10th, the Rangers have compiled a record of… 2-2. Looks like the Rangers are back on track: playing .500 hockey.
Nice ride while it lasted for the Rangers and their fans. Oh, and Richards, too, we assume.

Andrew Gross reports that the Rangers have recalled Kris Newbury for tonight's game in Montreal. Newbury is likely just precautionary in case both Brandon Dubinsky (shoulder) and Ruslan Fedotenko (back spasms) cannot play this evening.
… Ryan Callahan said what I was thinking, this isn’t your typical Rangers from the last few seasons. One loss does not snowball out of control and lead to long losing streaks. They have bounced back very quickly from a loss to take control of the next game. If the Rangers keep playing this way, [...]
New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that forward Kris Newbury has been assigned to the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League (AHL). Newbury, 29, was credited with two hits and won 2-3 faceoffs (67%) in 6:19 of ice time last night at Montreal, following his recall from Connecticut earlier [...]

* Coming into Tuesday’s game, the Rangers were 20-1-1 this season when scoring first.
* Additionally, they were 17-0-2 when leading after two periods.
* Ryan Suter missed the game with an upper-body injury.
* Seeing as how this is his first absence this season, the Predators are...
Rangers don’t win in Montreal. Period. Anyone who is shocked we lost should have their head examined. We don’t win in Montreal. WE DON’T WIN IN MONTREAL. Rangers should just concede these 2 games every year and not even make the trip.
That’s all I’m going to say on this game. Honestly, I probably should have just written this one before the game and skipped it altogether...

This, as expected, was a relatively boring game. The Predators ran their 1-2-2/1-4 trap to perfection, but the Rangers were able to adjust to a dump and chase and generate some goals off board play. In the end, it was a grind it out game that had the Rangers emerge victorious, with another shutout for Henrik Lundqvist. This was a very important win for the Rangers who had lost two...

The New York Rangers will be looking to bounce back from a 4-1 loss to Montreal last time out when they host the Nashville Predators in NHL betting action on Tuesday night.
Nashville has won four straight and eight of their last 10 games to stay right on the heels of the top teams in the Western Conference. New York will be likely home favorites in this contest at 5Dimes, but the...
Following a tough shootout loss at home last night, the Canadiens welcome (begrudgingly) the New York Rangers to town who are fresh off of a 3-0 victory against the Maple Leafs. Marty Biron started in net (and played fantastically), which will leave the Habs to face Lundqvist. I guess Torterella wasn’t about to start Biron in Montreal after the 4-0 victory Montreal scored earlier...
