It's a measure of how far the Capitals have come that they can author a work-ethic-challenged, mail-it-in, sorry account of an effort like last night's against the Kings and still have the outcome in doubt with a minute to go. Gaudy skill can on select nights breed a haughtiness or hubris in a hockey team. This we saw last night. The Capitals no longer line up against the NHL's elite wondering if they can match up. The new doubt is the follow-on to this healthy maturation: can wondrous skill be matched by a lunchpail work ethic?
