Happy Birthday, Logan Couture.  He says that all he wants for his birthday is a win. That’s very mature of him, planning to give us a present on his birthday, or, at least, to go get his own. So, the Sharks play in Anaheim tonight.  What have we got? We have stats to tell us what we know has already happened: Sharks lost 4 of 5 to the Ducks.  We have dinosaurs.  We have the Ducks who won’t lie down.  Wait.  I don’t think I have ever seen a duck lie down.  How would a duck lie down?  To lie down, I think you have to put your head on the ground, or a pillow, or…  Wouldn’t a duck have to be dead to do that? San Jose Sharks: Why the Sharks Are Poised for a Long Playoff Run

Normally, at this time of year, the San Jose Sharks are usually one of the top teams in the Western Conference, waiting for the playoffs to come. This year, things have changed. After leading the Pacific Division for what seemed like most of the season, lackluster and uninspired play by the Sharks allowed division rivals Los Angeles, Phoenix and Dallas to not only catch up, but...

Why The Sharks Need The 3rd Seed

from Brad Weimer of CSNBayArea, Let’s start at the beginning—since this playoff format was introduced in 1994, teams seeded 7 or 8 (where the Sharks will probably be if they don’t win the division) have only made it out of the first round 35.2% of the time.  Yep, that’s it.  Now that’s a lot greater percentage than the NBA (teams seeded 6-8 only have a winning percentage...

Stars look to leapfrog Sharks in tight West

The wild race for the Pacific Division title has teams jumping and dropping multiple spots in the Western Conference standings each night. The San Jose Sharks fell from third place to eighth after their most recent loss, but they can reclaim their spot atop the Pacific with a victory Thursday night over the host Phoenix Coyotes, who hope to get back into playoff position. San Jose...

Sharks, Coyotes Meet in Crucial Tilt in the Desert

In the days leading up to the trade deadline just over a month ago, the San Jose Sharks were sitting in third place of the Western Conference playoff chase. It might not have been a comfortable seat, but it was still seat amongst the divisional leaders. Unable to land big-ticket Rick Nash at the deadline, Sharks GM Doug Wilson added two depth players in T.J. Galiardi and Daniel...

The forgotten funk

The Sharks have not forgotten that stretch of frustrating losses and uninspired play they called a funk.  They are not clear of it yet: “We haven’t done anything yet,” Thornton said. “We’ve got six games left, and we’ve got to win some games just to get into the playoffs. It’s great getting all the way up to third, but we still have to keep going and working hard every...

Sharks-Ducks Preview

The San Jose Sharks are back atop the Pacific Division for the first time in a month, but they know they can't let up with three teams right behind them. They would feel much better about their playoff position if they had better success against the division's last-place team. The Sharks try to win four straight for the first time in more than 2 1/2 months Wednesday night...
