Here are the three takeaways from Wednesday’s 4-3 overtime loss:
While he is mostly known for his defense, Samuel Helenius had a great night offensively. Helenius recorded his first multi-point night in his professional career with a goal and an assist in the second period. Helenius has been playing great as of late and it was great to see him get rewarded for his effort.

The fourth line of the Ontario Reign last night with Lee, Helenius, and Pavlychev had a really good game and provided the offense in the second period. With the game close in the third period Marco Strum rewarded them with ice time late in the game.
Cal Petersen had a rough night last night. After allowing two goals or less in his previous five starts, Petersen gave up four goals including a soft goal in overtime. While Petersen has a .918 save percentage, it has been an up-and-down performance for the 28-year-old netminder. While he had a busy night facing 41 shots, there were a couple of goals I thought were questionable. The second goal allowed in the first period looked like he handcuffed himself when trying to catch the puck with his glove hand and the overtime goal is one that should not have gone in. We’ll see if he bounces back in his next start.
