Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils begins just after 8:00pm ET tonight and will be broadast on NBCSN, CBC and RDS. The series is tied at 2 games and if the pattern continues, the Rangers should be victorious.  Which ever team does win tonight, they will have the opportunity to clinch in New Jersey on Friday night. We are probably going to see the most intense game of the series and look for an unexpected player to be the hero tonight.

Rangers Desperately Await Dubinsky/Zuccarello Return

Through two rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the New York Rangers appeared to be fine without two key forwards in Brandon Dubinsky (ankle) and Mats Zuccarello (wrist). In fact, when injury struck during the regular season, the Rangers never were a team to lose a step because of it; they continued to trudge on and play through it, finding alternative ways to win hockey games. It...

Richards Almost the Goat

I know it doesn't matter because the Rangers lost anyway, but if Brad Richards would have scored the own goal on the Henrik Lundqvist all his clutchness this postseason would have been forgotten in one historically embarrassing flub......not sure I've ever seen that. If Lundqvist doesn't make the save, Richards sees that highlight in every NHL playoff highlight package...

Morning Skate Notes: Dubinsky Likely in for Mitchell; Prust Returns; McIlrath Sent Home (Update: Eminger Out)

Update, 11:59 a.m.:Also looks like Eminger out, Bickel staying in— Pat Leonard (@NYDNRangers) May 23, 2012 Original Post:Dave Lozo at NHL.com reports that while there were no lineup announcements this morning, Brandon Dubinsky left the ice early, while John Mitchell stayed out on the ice with the healthy scratches....love that Dubinsky will be back in there tonight. Should bring...

Rangers cover all angles of confidence

Maybe it was the hubris an athlete must possess in order to be successful at the highest level of his sport. Maybe it the unshakable belief an athlete has in a team that finished the regular season with an Eastern Conference-best 51 wins and 109 points. Or maybe it was simply a case of an athlete spitting into the wind. "It's pretty evident that we're clicking on...

Practice Notes: Dubi, Zucc Practice; Bickel Back on Defense

Both Brandon Dubinsky and Mats Zuccarello taking part in #NYR practice; Stu Bickel wearing red defensemen jersey— New York Rangers (@thenyrangers) May 22, 2012 ...i wouldn't be surprised if both Dubinsky and Zuccarello find their way back in the line-up tomorrow night. Team needs a spark offensively big time. And while Dubinsky gave them nothing in the scoring department...

Devils Making Henrik Lundqvist Look Human As New Jersey Pushes Rangers to Brink of Elimination

The Rangers didn't exactly play their best hockey throughout the first two rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs, but that fact was covered up largely thanks to Henrik Lundqvist. The Vezina trophy favorite was also the front-runner for the Conn Smythe trophy, but the Devils have gotten to the all-world goaltender, and because of that, the Devils are just one game from reaching the...

Rangers/Devils Game 5 Scoring Breakdown

Sometimes you win when you’re outplayed, other times you lose when you play your best. We’ve seen it all in this series. The first few minutes of the game the Devils leaped to an early lead on weird defensive breakdowns and weak goaltending from the Rangers. But after Torts’ timeout, the Rangers stormed back and outplayed the Devils for most of the contest. We out hit them...

Rangers Are Calm Before Must Win Game

from Katie Strang of ESPN New York, The closest thing to a guarantee from the Rangers heading into a do-or-die Game 6 against the Devils on Friday? Coach John Tortorella’s prediction about his star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist’s impending performance: “He’ll play his best game tomorrow night,” Tortorella proclaimed. A later line of questioning prompted Tortorella to...

Rangers Need A Messier-Like Performance

from Mike Vaccaro of the NY Post, So now they cross the river, same as they did 18 years ago. Today is the anniversary of Mark Messier’s guarantee, tomorrow of his hat trick that delivered it into history. We are more likely to see John Tortorella take an open-mike shift at the Laugh Lounge tonight than any Ranger try to channel Messier, and that’s fine. The guarantee has always...

Brandon Prust gets penalty for dive against Devils (Video)

New York Rangers right winger Brandon Prust took a dive after being checked after the whistle by New Jersey Devils defenseman Peter Harrold during the second period of Wednesday night's NHL Eastern Conference final playoff game. As the whistle was blown for a play stoppage, Prust was trying to ram Harrold's head into the goalpost of the Devils net. Harrold fell down...

Todd Cordell: Devils jump out to early lead, don't look back as they tie series at 2

Last night the New Jersey Devils came out flying, capitalized on some scoring chances early and didn't look back as they went on to defeat the Rangers 4-1 to tie the series at two wins a piece. Here are some notes on the game. - I'll start with the Pete DeBoer - John Tortorella incident as that's what is getting all the talk right now. From DeBoer's perspective...

Devils-Rangers Preview

Practice for the New York Rangers went from optional to mandatory. Their attitude shifted from agitated to optimistic. For the third straight series, the Eastern Conference's top-seeded team is all even through four games, and each time New York has headed into Game 5 off the disappointment of a loss that would have given the Rangers a commanding 3-1 edge. The negative view...

President Carter: 5 goal outing pushes King Henrik to the Edge of his Throne

The Devils are one win away from a date with the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup Finals. After coming out quick and early, scoring 3 goals within the first 10 minutes of the game, New York "rallied" back, scoring & knotting up the game after 3 un answered goals. Two of the goals, questionable, as well as MANY calls in general, throughout, for BOTH teams. A blatent...

Fighting Sioux own the night in Devils win

NBCSN ice level announcer/personality Pierre McGuire couldn't seem to say it enough as he kept mentioning the two outstanding players from Grand Forks, ND. While Zach Parise (2002-04) and Travis Zajac (2004-06) are former Fighting Sioux Hockey players - they never played hockey together during their time at UND. Parise left UND in 2004 after playing two season for the Fighting...
