Found October 06, 2011 on Lowetide:
The NHL starts up again tonight, it should be an exciting season in many cities across the league. Based on the media reports I've seen, three Canadian teams (Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto) will win the Stanley and there's probably 7 or 8 in the USA who feel the same way. Oiler fans have to wait until Sunday--they are the last team to pop the cork on the season--to play Pittsburgh. It won't be an ieal opening for fans, the blue is still beat up and I'd bet a 2-4 coach Renney starts Khabibulin in net for G1. The fun for Oiler fans this season will be the 20 or so games in which "firewagon hockey" returns to the NHL. I think there will be a lot of 4-1 losses and 5-2 L's, but the offense should be able to post some crooked numbers a few nights this season. IF all six of Hall, Eberle, Hemsky, Smyth, Omark, Paajarvi stay healthy this team should have a large jump in offense. During the RE series, I suggested this version of the Oilers will score 30 more goal...

Long Gone Gagner?

Rumors today from the Big Smoke about Toronto interested in Sam Gagner. According to Damien Cox there are voices in the wind suggesting a defenseman would be coming the other way. If only it was Jim Dorey. Based on the defensemen the Leafs probably consider available, if true this could end very badly for the Oilers.

Oilers’ Defencemen and Injuries

Minor Updates and Musings The Edmonton Oilers may not be as short on defenceman opening night as was previously believed. According to the Oilers website, “Both Ryan Whitney and Ladislav Smid are progressing and could potentially shock Oil Country by playing vs. the Penguins, but Taylor Chorney is certainly ready to go.”  If Whitney feels ready to play, the team trainer clears...

Oilers Need to Avoid Sophomore Slumps

The Edmonton Oilers face several challenges in the coming season. The team is still/already riddled with injuries, don’t appear to have complete confidence in their goaltending, and the defence is still quite young and is easily the most identifiable weakness of the roster. While the Oilers appear good up front, that will depend upon the sophomores avoiding the dreaded second year...

Bad Timing, That's All

Even the best laid plans can fail miserably, and that appears to be the case in regard to the new Katz arena. Months and months of months and months have left the city, Katz, the province and fans about equal to the cars and trucks on this bridge. The Oilers are not promised to Edmonton and Edmonton is not promised to the Oilers. There's a pile of money, a mountain of rhetoric...

Roster Set?

Taylor Hall's team looks like it's ready to leave the station for 2011-12. Some quick healing defensemen have apparently made a waiver claim or trade moot, and we can hope that Ryan Whitney has some good practice sessions for the rest of this week. Based on this article from Jim Matheson, we might conclude the roster will look like this. IR: Sam Gagner, Ryan Whitney, Ladislav...

Fussy Britches Update

Treena S Oil has an update via twitter this evening. She tweets "Oilers Leafs talking multiplayer deal. Omark, Gagner, Petry and Pitlick are names being mentioned as per Garfield."Let's see, that would be two young forwards who could help a team for a decade and a fine young defender who looked the part of an NHL defenseman during an expanded opportunity one year ago...
