The Senators' big producers started the pre-season with a bang as did one of their big prospects. New sniper Bobby Ryan Milan Michalek and 6-foot-5 235-pound rookie Buddy Robinson scored the Ottawa goals in a 3-1 win over the Jets at a jam-packed but mostly quiet MTS Centre Sunday night. Erik Karlsson showed Norris Trophy form and added two assists while Michalek also had a helper. Robin Lehner was quite sharp in stopping 17 of 18 shots before being replaced by rookie Andrew Hammond to start the third. Big Dustin Byfuglien wasn’t in the lineup but the Jets did have plenty of star power in Tobias Enstrom Andrew Ladd Bryan Little Blake Wheeler and new addition Michael Frolick. Ottawa used 10 players from last year’s team and of course Ryan. Coach Paul MacLean wanted to give his new No. 1 line a chance to develop some early chemistry and Ryan Jason Spezza and Michalek did some of that owning the puck for much of the early going. Ryan’s first in a Senators jersey in the openi...

Buddy Robinson scored for the second straight night, and the Ottawa Senators earned a 4-2 preseason victory over the Calgary Flames on Monday. Senators Start Answering Questions in the Pre-season

Going into the first pre-season game of the year, Ottawa Senators' fans had a few questions. Two of the most pressing questions are whether or not Erik Karlsson will be able to fully recover from having his Achilles' tendon partially severed by the skate blade of Matt Cooke and return to Norris Trophy form. Another was whether the newly acquired Bobby Ryan would be able to...

Photo via the Senators' Website Look at Randy Lee! Compared to previous photographs that capture either Tim Murray or Bryan Murray inking a prospect or player, Randy Lee will actually crack a smile. He can smile for good reason too. Not only Charles James Robinson III is producing at a ridiculously sustainable rate through the team's first two exhibition games...

Travis Yost: Few Preseason Thoughts

Make sure to follow Travis on Twitter! -- I caught a fair bit of Ottawa's preseason opener against Winnipeg on Sunday night. The Senators won 3-1, if the score is of any relevance to you. Just a few thoughts on how the team looked in their first real skate. -- Erik Karlsson was moving around the ice better than what was witnessed in April and May, which has to be a relief...

Ottawa Senators beat Calgary Flames 4-2 in Saskatoon

All things being equal the Senators will have to give the vacant second line winger job to Mike Hoffman. He’s the only one of those currently battling for the spot who would need to clear waivers if they tried to send him to Binghamton. After all they’ve invested in Hoffman — as well as the offensive potential and speed he has — the Senators would be wrong to risk losing...
