Our friends at Versus gave us a wonderful hockey game Tuesday night. Washington’s action-packed 5-4 overtime victory over Anaheim was fun to watch. As a bonus, we got some more drama from the Capitals: Coach Bruce Boudreau benched Alexander Ovechkin at the end of regulation play as his team was trying to tie the game. That got Alex’s attention. He got busy in overtime and contributed to the game-winning goal.Afterward, Boudreau explained why he sent out mucking forwards Jason Chimera, Brooks Laich and Joel Ward along with Nicklas Backstrom to play six-on-five with goaltender Tomas Vokoun pulled in the final minute.“I thought other guys were better than him and I thought there was just a chance that other guys might score the goal,” Boudreau told reporters. “I’ve got to put out the guys that I think are going to score the goal and 99 percent of the time Alex is the guy I think is going to score the goal. “I just didn’t think Alex was going to score the goal at that time tonight. Alex Ovechkin Doesn’t Care for Benching, Calls Bruce Boudreau a “Fat F–k”

With 1:27 remaining in their game against the Anaheim Ducks, and trailing 4-3, Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau called timeout to draw up how his team might go about tying the game in order to send it to overtime.  Surprisingly, Boudreau’s plans didn’t include resident superstar Alexander Ovechkin. Ovie clearly didn’t care for being left on the bench to sit and watch his teammates...

Capitals Pull A Rabbit Out of the Hat to Beat the Ducks in Overtime

Several weeks ago, after his team beat Georgia, South Carolina’s football coach Steve Spurrier said that sometimes the team that plays the best game doesn’t win.  That was clearly the case last evening at the Verizon Center.  The Anaheim Ducks, in the middle of a seven game road swing, clearly outplayed the Capitals for at least 45 of the 60 minutes of regulation, yet ended...

Caps' Ovechkin upset with move, but supports it

Two-time league MVP Alex Ovechkin says he was upset when he was left on the bench for the final moments of regulation in the Washington Capitals' come-from-behind 5-4 win over Anahiem. But Ovechkin says he also understands why coach Bruce Boudreau did it. Boudreau sent out another line - without Ovechkin - after pulling the goalie with a one-goal deficit in Tuesday night'...

Alex Ovechkin drops F-bomb on Capitals coach

Alex Ovechkin wasn't thrilled about not being on the ice in the waning minutes of Tuesday night's game against the Anaheim Ducks. Weird thought seeing as though Ovie has scored 50+ goals in three of the past four seasons. What'd Ovie think of...

Coach hurts Ovechkin's feelings, Ovechkin returns the favor

Don't you dare hurt Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin's feelings by taking him out of the game in crunch time. Caps win in ugly fashion

In response to an awful 0-2 Canadian road trip against Edmonton and Vancouver where the Caps defense, penalty killing and transition game looked inept, Coach Bruce Boudreau made several changes to the line up against the Anaheim Ducks.  He brought up Cody Eakin from the Hershey Bears to man the wing on the 2nd line with Marcus Johansson and Alexander Semin while demoting Mike Knuble...
