On Friday, Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon announced that head coach Kevin Dineen and assistants Craig Ramsey and Gord Murphy have been relieved of their duties. This was first reported by George Richards of the Miami Herald. Dineen and company have been on the job for just over two seasons, taking the helm at the beginning of the 2011-2012 season after coaching the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League. Peter Horachek, who was the head coach of the Panthers AHL affiliate in San Antonio, has been promoted to coach the Panthers. Brian Skrudland and John Madden will be his assistants.
During a conference call with media, Tallon mentioned that “something just isn’t right” with this team after starting this season with a 3-9-4 record but that Dineen would be the first of many changes coming. He also mentioned that “we’re all responsible for this record” while also noting that firing Dineen was something that wasn’t taken lightly. Tallon also said that he will of...

It was a matter of time.
Kevin Dineen was relieved of his duties along with Craig Ramsey and Gord Murphy as GM Dale Tallon tries to salvage a disastrous start to this season.
Call it systems. Call it philosophy. Call it disinterest. Whatever it is, Tallon has sent the message that enough is enough.

The Florida Panthers are a bottom-feeding team. They have only three wins in their 16 games to date. They are not a particularly good team. Tomas Fleischmann leads the team with 11 points. He is the only player on the team with more than 8 points (a point every second games). Brian Campbell is their top defenceman - but his defensive skills can be lacking. Their best...
This was not the way Peter Horachek wanted to realize a long-term goal to become a head coach in the NHL, but he'll take it.

He's the third...

Dale Tallon, GM of the Florida Panthers was on Sportsnet's Prime Time Sports and sounded both frustrated and upset with the play of the Panthers this season.

Vincent Viola talked a good game after becoming the new lead owner of the Florida Panthers.“We’re all about hockey and are very singularly focused people,” Viola said at his introductory news conference. “That’s what we’re about, the Florida Panthers. We will do everything we can and we will win here. We’re excited about that.”Yeah, well, the team’s miserable 3...

Dale Tallon will tell you the rebuild began when he got there, so this would be year three. After three wins in 16 games this season, the GM fired all of his coaches, then got on a conference call with reporters and spoke words that long-suffering Panthers fans have surely heard before. “This is just the beginning,” Tallon warned. “If our...
