The Florida Panthers have agreed to terms with goaltender Jacob Markstrom on a two-year contract, the team announced Monday.
"Jacob is a young and talented goaltender who gained valuable experience playing in Florida last year," Panthers executive vice president and general manager Dale Tallon said. "We expect that he will continue to mature and develop and play an important role on our club next season."
Markstrom, 23, has a 10-19-2 overall record with a .906 save percentage in 31 games with Florida. In 23 games last season, he went 8-14-3, including a career-high 44-save effort in a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers on Mar. 2.
The 6-foot-6, 197-pound Markstrom played in 32 games last season with San Antonio of the American Hockey League, going 17-12-1 with a .927 save percentage and a 2.32 goals-against average. He was named AHL Player of the Week after making 68 saves in two wins against Abbotsford on Dec. 4-5.
The Gavle, Sweden native was drafted by Florida in the second round (31st overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

It's been all too quiet regarding goalie-of-the-future Jacob Markstrom, until this weekend. GM Dale Tallon has been negotiating with the RFA and said today that a deal will be coming "shortly." However, there were grumblings that Markstrom was unhappy with the initial offer and was considering playing in the KHL.
Perhaps that was a wishful internet fabrication...

Rallo appeared in 10 games with Florida last season, recording one goal. He led the San Antonio Rampage, Florida's American Hockey League affiliate, with 23 goals and ranked second in points with 70 in 66 contests.

Good news as both Alexsander Barkov and Jacob Markstrom signed 3 and 2 year deals, respectively. The Panthers continue to solidify their core for the future, and any nervousness amongst Panther fans surrounding the Markstrom situation can now subside.
