The Florida Panthers signed restricted free agent Shawn Matthias to a two-year deal, the team announced Friday.
Matthias finished last season with a career-best 14 goals last season and 21 points.
"Shawn is a hardworking player who played well for our club last season," Panthers GM Dale Tallon said. "He took steps in his development last year, scoring a career high in goals. We look forward to him improving and playing an important role on our club."
TSN reported the center will earn 1.75 million per year.
Acquired in a 2007 trade with the Detroit Red Wings, Matthias has 39 goals and 42 assists for 81 points in 253 career games, all with Florida.
The Panthers also announced the singings of defenseman Mike Mottau to a one-year, two-way deal and winger Joey Crabb to a two-year deal.

As GM Dale Tallon continued to overhaul this roster last year, he signed Filip Kuba to an alarming deal worth $8 million over two years. It was obvious right away that he wasn't playing with Erik Karlsson any more, and his production showed it.
While he improved gradually as the season went along, he was obviously one of the slowest players on the ice, and did not provide...
George Parros was traded to the Montreal Canadiens on the first day of free agency this year. Promptly there were some cracks about how the Habs finally added some size, and Parros himself had this to say about the trade:
"I play my game," Parros said on a conference call. "I stick up for my teammates no matter how small or tall they are."
The Florida Panthers have signed four players today, adding depth guys Mike Mottau (one year), Jesse Winchester (one year) and Joey Crabb (two years), as well as re-signing centreman Shawn Matthias (two years). Mottau was drafted in the seventh round, 182nd overall, by the New York Rangers in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. He played four years of college hockey at Boston College, and was [...]
It’s been a busy day thus far in Hockeytown.
After signing away Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson, the Wings got another team leader by inking second line center Stephen Weiss to a five-year, $4.5 million dollar deal per year contract.
If Wings get Weiss as well as Alfie, they will have swiped leaders from two future division rivals.

The Montreal Canadiens acquired enforcer George Parros from the Florida Panthers on Friday.
Montreal sent prospect Philippe Lefebvre and a 2014 seventh-round pick to Florida for the 6-foot-5, 228-pound Parros. It is the same seventh rounder Montreal acquired from the Panthers at the NHL draft last week.
