Florida Panthers right wing Tomas Kopecky and New York Rangers defenseman Michael Del Zotto were fined $2,500 apiece by the NHL on Saturday for their actions during the waning moments of Friday's contest.

Signed to a four-year, $12 million contract, Kopecky was not suspended by the league which ignited a very ugly incident at the end of the contest.

With 7.6 seconds remaining, Del Zotto delivered a cross-check to Kopecky in front of the net. As Del Zotto turned, Kopecky answered by punching the blue-liner while he wasn't looking.

"D-Z wasn't even looking at him." New York forward Brandon Prust said. "That’s a sucker punch. If you’re not looking at the guy and he punches you in the head."

"That’s hockey,” Panthers coach Kevin Dineen responded. “Some guy cross-checks you in the back and follows through, he deserves a good smash in the face. (Del Zotto) got what he deserved."

Kopecky received a match penalty for his actions.
