It's Always Sunny in Detroit:
The Wings’ Pavel Datsyuk doesn’t need the NHL to make highlight reel plays. He’s currently playing in his native land Russia for CSKA Moscow of the KHL. In his debut, Datsyuk pulled off something that he’s never done in a Red Wings uniform. He headed the puck into the net.
And if you’re fluent in Russian (or you just want to take my word on it), you’ll see that the goal doesn’t count. It appears Russia doesn’t care about soccer either.
You don’t need Rosetta Stone to hear the condescending tone in the announcer’s voice when the puck goes in the net.

Pavel Datsyuk has a flair for the dramatic regardless of what continent he's on. Datsyuk, who is one of the many NHL players currently playing overseas during the NHL lockout, showed that he can put the puck into the net in more ways than one. The Red Wings center managed to dish out a soccer style header to tickle the twine on Monday, showing once again that he's a special...
In the hockey world, everyone knows that Pavel Datsyuk is some kind of supernatural freak. Due to the NHL lockout, Datsyuk signed with the KHL’s CSKA Moscow along with Nashville’s Most Valuable Partier, Alexander Radulov. In a game Monday night against Avangard Omsk (wtf?), Datsyuk tracked the rebound of his denied shot and headed the puck into the net soccer-style. Most players...
With the NHL lockout in full swing, Datsyuk signed in the KHL to play for CSKA Moscow with Alexander Radulov. I think this is best for Datsyuk, because he needs to stay in shape and stay loose for when the season does start up again. After shooting the puck and having it deflect off the goalies glove, Datsyuk follows the rebound as it pops into the air and the heads it in. Is...
Pavel Datsyuk sported a different jersey Monday, but he was up to his old tricks in his first game with CSKA Moscow of the KHL. Continue reading →
The Red Wings' locked-out players will take part in their first informal practice in Troy today, and many of you will be skating in their place at Joe Louis Arena over the next three days, which seems strange...But this lockout has been nothing if not full of "weirdness."
Just as it feels like we've been at this for much longer than eight days, for me, it feels...
I'm about to engage in a significant amount of paraphrasing due to foreign-language fun:
On Sunday afternoon, CSKA Moscow held a joint press conference to formally introduce Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk and Philadelphia Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov as members of the team. CSKA's website posted a photo gallery from the event, a 13:27 YouTube clip (in Russian) of the...
from David Muller of Mlive,
How big of an economic impact could the NHL lockout have on Hockeytown?
With the stalemate between the league and players now 10 days old, MLive Detroit has reached out to veteran economist David Littman, who has studied the economic impact of sports teams and major entertainment events on cities, to gauge the economic impact the Red Wings...
Valtteri Filppula teamed up with his brother, Ilari, to register a point in his debut for Jokerit of the Finnish SM-Liiga on Tuesday. Continue reading →
In yet another interesting plot twist that is the soap opera of collective bargaining talks between the NHL and NHLPA, one league exec took a shot at the Bruins' Milan Lucic. Detroit Red Wings senior-vice president Jimmy Devellano commented in a recent interview, comparing players to "cattle." "I will tell you this: The owners can basically be viewed as the Ranch...
Our beloved Wings have been scattered across the world. But that won't stop them from amazing us. Check out these goals by our Detroit Red Wings.
First off, of course, is Pavel, with a goal that Pele would be proud of:
After the break, we have the prettiest goal in the world - a Filppula from Filppula production.
from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,
Detroit Red Wings forward Danny Cleary warned today that the lockout that is threatening the start of the NHL season might linger on and on.
"I think people don't think it can go a year," Cleary said after several Wings held an independent skate at Troy Sports Center. "As players, we think it can. Maybe...
from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN,
So, what exactly does an NHL GM do while waiting out the lockout?
"Right now, we’re all going to be glorified scouts to a degree," veteran Detroit Red Wings GM Ken Holland told ESPN.com Wednesday.
"All you can really do at this point is go watch games and evaluate players."
NHL GMs try to get to as...

In the past week, many players have signed contracts overseas in an effort to continue working during the ongoing lockout.
