(Jason Franson/Canadian Press) Following up on last night’s work with the crystal ball, Red Wings magician Pavel Datsyuk indeed signed a contract extension that should make him a Red Wing for life. General manager Ken Holland told the Free Press the deal is for $22.5 million, with an annual salary cap hit of $7.5 million. That latter number is especially important, because it matches what team captain Henrik Zetterberg will make in actual salary each year from 2014-15 through 2016-17. The deal with Datsyuk, who will turn 35 in July, was pretty much a foregone conclusion since the season ended.  It was all about when and for how much the extension would amount to. The Wings will keep their nucleus in place for several more years in Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, Niklas Kronwall and Jimmy Howard.  Now Holland should be turning his eye toward which free agent targets he will be hunting once the free agency period begins on July 5.  The Wings will have money to spend and are expected to be aggressive. Some names who have been bantered about include: 6’4”, 233-pound Bryan Bickell, a “power forward” who has been a Chicago Blackhawk;  Andrew Ference, a defenseman with the Bruins; and Bruins forward Nathan Horton, who has scored 20 goals in eight straight seasons. Needless to say, Kenny Holland will be looking to hand out more cash this summer.
