The National Hockey League announced today that Pekka Rinne was one of three finalist for the 2012 Vezina Trophy that will be given out at the NHL Awards Show at the Wynn Encore Hotel in Las Vegas on June 20.

The Vezina Trophy is voted upon by NHL General Managers and goes to the "goalkeeper adjudged to be the best at his position."

The other nominees are Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers and Jonathan Quick from the Los Angeles Kings.

Last year, Rinne finished a close second to Tim Thomas of the Boston Bruins. He also finished fourth in the Hart Trophy balloting which was won by Anaheim's Corey Perry. Rinne actually finished ahead of Thomas in the Hart voting.

Second-round spotlight shines on Smith, Renne

According to Nashville legend, Pekka Rinne played so little in his homeland of Finland that the Predators' scout who discovered him based his reports on what he saw in warmups. According to actual league transactions, Mike Smith was waived by the Tampa Bay Lightning almost 14 months ago because he was the third choice behind starter Dwayne Roloson and backup Dan Ellis. Maybe...

Heck, a nice Cory Schneider would help any of the Eastern Conference teams out in a pinch. Quite frankly, the goaltending coming out of the Eastern Conference quarter-finals so far has been underwhelming at best. The most...
