Let me start off by saying, it’s about time. The grief the Pens were receiving over the past 2 weeks was just incredible. Their slump started off on December 29, 2011 and continued through January 11, 2012. We finally got a win last night topping the Florida Panthers 4-1 courtesy of Steve Sullivan, Evgeni Malkin, Tyler Kennedy and James Neal.

During that span we lost to the Flyers,  Rangers, Devils, Senators, Caps and the Devils twice, before we finally got our first win last night.   The most painful thing about that span is that four of those losses were to division foes. Granted we do have a lot of injuries, but being outscored 19- 6 over a span of 6 games is still inexcusable.  Things look to be turning around as the Pens continue on their tour of Florida visiting Tampa Bay tomorrow at 1pm.

Finally - Penguins 4, Panthers 1

So what happened? Things looked bleak after the first period for the Pens.  The score was still tied, but the Pens had hit four (!!) posts / crossbars and had two failed breakaways.  It was like the Hockey Gods were conspiring against the Pens. The great part about this team is that they don't quit.  They kept working, and when Scott Clemmensen misplayed the puck behind...

So who ordered the Code Red?

Here's what we know.  According to Dejan, three sources informed him that some players held a meeting to discuss a temporary captaincy of the team in Crosby's absence.  This is as close to a Code Red as it gets in the hockey world, other than actually attacking Robert Bortuzzo in his sleep and sticking a rag down his throat.
