The Penguins lost in the shoot out last night after leading 3-1 after two periods.  But that isn’t all they lost last night, they also lost another defenseman for an undetermined amount of time.  Ben Lovejoy has a broken wrist after a collision on the boards with Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture from San Jose.  The Pens are already without Zbynek Michalek with a broken finger for a few more weeks.  Luckily Brooks Orpik and Kris Letang seem to be healthy at this point though they have missed time this season already with injuries.  The Pens played most of the game last night with only 5 defenseman which could be part of the reason for the meltdown in the third period.  However the Pens had called up Alexandre Picard and he is on the trip and will play Saturday in Los Angeles.

Some notes from the game last night:

  • Malkin scored 2 goals and assisted on the 3rd and looked to be in great health.
  • The San Jose Sharks is the only team in the NHL that Coach Dan Bylsma has not beat.
  • The Penguins didn’t receive one power play opportunity, though the Sharks only received one which was shut down by the PK unit.
