Letang practiced on Monday and Tuesday but said he experienced trouble breathing.
I’d be surprised if we see a suspension come out of last night’s Max Pacioretty open ice hit on Kris Letang.
The following variables come to mind:
1. Letang was weaving through the Montreal Canadiens offence until he got rocked by Pacioretty. He simply was leaving himself vulnerable to getting hit pretty hard.
2. Letang wasn’t necessarily reacting to Pacioretty...
The blind-side blow to the face defenseman Kris Letang absorbed Saturday from Montreal's Max Pacioretty broke his nose and compelled him to spend a lot of time with medical personnel the past few days. Even so, Letang doesn't seem to be carrying a grudge and said he believes the three-game suspension Pacioretty received Monday is reasonable punishment.
I’m still recovering, and thus have someone else typing this for me, but a quick thought on Pacioretty/Letang: it shouldn’t be a suspension. Very similar to the Ryan Malone hit of earlier this year, more body on body than anything else, and I don’t believe there was any intent visible. Max Pacioretty did not intend to hurt Kris Letang.
That said, I wouldn’t be surprised...
